View Full Version : Fuel Fuel accumulator when EFI converted

My fuel accumulator has been left in place during my EFI conversion. Anybody have any thoughts on how/if the accumulator would affect the EFI system if it should go bad?

It will only affect it if it ruptures so badly that the primary pressure can't be maintained.

Ah, I figured something like that. Thanks!

If that were to happen you could cap off and plug the relief line (the one by itself on the accumulator) and then it would still be fine. Unless it disintegrated and started bleeding chunks of rubber into the system (although the filter would catch that). If it's that bad you would have bigger issues. . .. .

I would leave it in. It also smooths out the pump pulses.

I am also curious about this, as my EFI car will not hold system pressure after running - after a shutdown I can hear the accumulator "clunking" as pressure is released. I have checked and re-checked every hose connection, none are even damp. I replaced the check valve on the fuel pump. I suspect the accumulator but as Martin says if it's that bad the car shouldn't run. The accumulator was replaced with a (new, not NOS) unit less than three years ago.
Thoughts, anyone? Should I plug my relief line to test it?

It's probably a bad accumulator but mine (from John) is going on 6 years now with no problems. You can temporarily cap the line to your EFI and work back from there.

The EFI pressure reg should close off and prevent return loss, it does sound like a bad accumulator. on the EFI cars I have done lately, I have bypassed the accumulator altogether.
