Hi all.. i have a question.i have tobys auto door poppers and alarm and unlock remote etc.. it works great and has so for a few years now.. recently i am having a problem with the passenger door not unlocking fully when the drivers side button is used to open it.. it unlocks and locks fully fine all the time with the remote and if i use the passenger side.. just not with the drivers side all the time.. i took the whole passenger door apart yesterday and everything seems to be fine.. i cleaned the switch contacts etc.. even took the latches out and cleaned them.. it still seems to do it.. could the problem be on the drivers side?? i am stumped.. thanks..Dave..

Probably requires a fine-tuning of the door adjustments of both doors. Follow the procedure in the Workshop manual. Make sure both doors are in the "second locking position" when closed. You should not be forcing the doors open or closed, that can mess up the adjustments. Start with good inner door seals and check the anchor pins as the door closes. If both latches on a door are not in second locking position and you try to lock the door you bend the rods and throw the adjustments out of whack.

both of my doors work exceptionally well. .when i went to houston a few years back one of the techs even commented on how well they worked..lol.. my passenger door is very slightly harder to shut then the drivers though. i can shut the drivers door with two fingers. the passenger one for some reason always shuts the front latch right before the back one. .but its always been like that and tobys kit has worked perfectly till now.. i didnt see any bent rods when i was in the door yesterday though... Still worth trying the lock and latch setting procedure. It's a very complex arrangement in there and all the parts strike a delicate balance. One or two threads out of whack on a rod might be the difference between perfect and not working.

Check the electrical connections at the bell cranks...

also check for any pretension on the door release mechanism.

if you prefer you can and maybe should do these before adjusting the rods - if you are highly confident in the rod adjustments.

so i should just check for tension in the actual door release part?? when u pull the handle??? the passenger one is a bit tighter to pull then the drivers one for some reason. maybe i need to take the outer handle out and spray out the cable??

There are two releases, either of which could put pretension on the locks. Interior release has a non adjustable rod, with that one you just make sure that you can open the clip and pop it out, and that its not pulling on the release crank, but loosely in position. It probably will be. For the cable, you can see if you can unhook the end and check its tension that way, or back it off a little and see if that improves operation.

The other possibility is that the electrical connections in the bell crank are a bit dirty or damaged - from the original description that seems likely as well. When you unlock one door it moves that bell crank to a new position and it makes contact with new wires, similar to a two way switch in your hallway. If they don't make good contact, or if the contacts at the other bell crank don't complete the circuit, then the door will not unlock. It could be either bell crank technically. You can check the cranks with a meter if desired.

Hi..i cleaned the bellcrank contacts on the passenger side.. they are very clean..lol.. i can take the handle cable out and try cleaning that a bit. and i will check the bellcrank on the drivers side.. maybe its not making full contact and causing the passenger side to stick?? is that possible??

Hey Dave,

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but have you tried the lock and latch procedure? It's wild just how messed up your locks get if they're not set just so. I had all kinds of craziness going on and everything I tried got me nowhere because I couldn't see how the lock and latch procedure would help. I did it as a last resort and everything worked perfectly and has continued to to do so ever since. It takes no time at all compared to other less effective alternatives.

Ignore this if you've already tried it, but i didn't see anything about it other than another member suggesting it.

Cheers,

Dave - bad connections at either crank can be the problem.

Dave - I'm suggesting he check the electrical circuits first because he has expressed that he has had them adjusted perfectly previously, so before throwing out the baby with the bathwater, he can check these items first, if he has bad electrics, no amount of mechanical adjustments will help.

Dave - (loving this) there is a great video on youtube by Martin that will help if you do have to do a full mechanical adjustment.
