I don't think that lock nut is necessary on the bolt that holds the battery ground wire on the trailing arm. What do you think?

It's a huge pain in the neck, and not consistently installed even by the factory. They usually have the same one on the other side, and I've seen cars with all 4.
We do re-install them though. Just Because, I guess.
I've never heard of those bolts backing out. Use fresh lockwashers.

Thanks Dave. So I went to put the nut back on and dropped it. Well come to find out you can get at that nut from the hole inside where the TAB washer is.:hihi:
Yes I took the nut off from the outside and was saying I would never get it back on
Not much trouble getting it back on inside.

Oh great?! My D didn’t have any locking nut on the backside of the Screw M8 which holds the Reinforcing Plate to the frame. The Reinforcing Plate is what holds the end of the Trailing Arm and the two screws are very important.
I’m assuming you guys are talking about Page 5/3/0 item number 32.
This past summer I installed two (4 gauge) black ground wires 'one on each screw M8' for the two amplifiers that my stereo is going to run.
I remember the screws were in there good and tight when I removed them and had the proper lock washer and flat washer according to the Parts Manual.
This mysterious nut you guys mention is just one more thing the Parts Manual does not show.

When I replaced my trailing arm bushings, I had to remove those silly locknuts as well. I decided to get some new bolts and Toby provided shorter ones and recommended that I use locktite.

What is truly annoying is when someone doesn't realize that lock nut is there, and twists the head off the 8 mm bolt.
