Has anyone tried Hervey's heat shield with "Delorean" on it? I have been searching but have not found pictures of it in a car. Does it look nice? Do you have a picture?

IIRC, MartyP (http://dmctalk.org/member.php?207-MartyP) from Quebec has the heat shield. If I'm right, he's got a few videos where you can see it.

You're right, I got it. Fits well, and looks cool. I had pictures on the old forum...Here they are.

I'm sorry but...ew. There's just the right amount of lettering on a stock D. Plus I really like how cool the oil pan looks.

Is there any benefit to having the wider/extended heat shield like Hervey has, as opposed to the stock size?

From what I understand, the original heatshield is actually better than metal replacements, as it absorbs the heat, wheras the metal deflects it a bit more and can cause warping on the rear fascia. This is of course just what I've heard, I have not seen a car with a metal heat shield to compare

So the choices are:
DMC - Improved part, but does not look metal from the picture
SpecialT - 3 different sizes aluminum
D Industries - SS stock size
I also have a fiber heat shield under the catalytic converter? I don't see that in the parts available...
EDIT: Oh, I guess that is the Heatshield Underbody? From the picture, it looks like it goes on the roof :-)

For me It didnt matter since I dont have a muffler, only the pipe splitting in 2.
It also goes further on each sides.
I personnally like it.
And it's in Stainless not aluminium.

Ours will be on sale tomorrow with our aft shields Alex starting at noon. Great deal for both.
I just picked up 50 of each for the sale yesterday. 304 stainless exact fit replacements.

The original heat shield was asbestos. Not that it "absorbs" the heat but it is a better insulator than all the current replacements. The current metal ones are more of a heat reflector than an insulator.
The problem with the OEM version is that is is made of asbestos, which has its own set of - ahh - problems and can no longer be used to make things like this. So the current replacements are all there is.
The heat shield has no impact on warping of the rear fascia, its purpose is to keep the muffler heat away from the belts/pulleys. Warping of the rear fascia is generally caused by cars overheating the cat/muffler due to fuel system issues.

So the one DMC sells is metal? You can't really tell from the picture.

Yes, it's metal.

I have the DMCH replacement. I've been running it for a year(10,000 miles) and I'm happy with it. Previously I was using the OEM asbestos shield. I would've left it alone but from rolling around under the car and bumping into it it was starting to look like crud. At the time, The general consensus on the message boards and at a few club meetings was the DMCH replacement is about as good as you can get.

Found this pic from when I first got the car. You can see my original heat shield on the top, and the new DMCH replacement on the bottom. The original one is just made of fibers, whatever the fibers might be made of. It's basically cardboard. It does some pretty punishing duty being exposed to the elements as well as all that heat... you can see the result here.

...be careful with those fibers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asbestos#Health_problems)! :nervous:

Only really an issue if they aerosolize, but yes - proper precautions are in order. Gloves and a dust mask, with proper plastic bags to contain the trash when you're done. Disposal restrictions may apply in your area as well.
Also, didn't mean to imply I didn't know what the old one was made of :) Just emphasizing that it's still just a fiberboard, lol

Our option is 304 stainless piece. Just switched suppliers and should have the price way down from our current offering.
We also have the longer version with "delorean" in our company stylized lettering available.

My original question was if it's worth getting the extended length. It seems it would cover the pulley below the a/c compressor, which should be a good thing - unless it restricts needed airflow?
I'm also interested in the letters, but I don't see it in your website. Is that similar to SpecialT's? I wish that one had the same font as the bumper...

My original was in excellent shape, not splitting or broken. I took it off carefully, traced it out on a sheet of aluminum, and then cut my own. I put the stock one in a bag up on the shelf. Had I thought about it I would have made the one I cut a little over sized.

I also was wondering about making my own - then it can be whatever I want :-)
Thanks!

Do you know what gauge and type of aluminum you used?
Thanks!

I don't know. Dad's shop works with all types so I told him what I wanted to do and he gave me a sheet to use. I'll ask him if he remembers. I know it is thinner than what I normally use but much harder with a shine to it. I was planning to use some left over for my throttle shield but it didn't bend easily.
