Has anyone run into a situation where the car will not turn off by the key? I recently purchased the car (5186) and it had not been started in 2-3 years according to the previous owner. After a new fuel pump, and a reconditioned fuel distribution system, I have it running but the ignition switch does not cut the engine off. I replaced the ignition switch and tried to trace the wiring to see if I have a obvious short but did not find one. When I hook up the battery, with the key off, the electrical system acts as if I have the key in the on position. I started unplugging fuses and when I pulled #7 (Lamda,ECU,freq, fuel) the car seems to work as it should except no horn. I then put it back and tried unplugging relays, no help. Unless anyone has a better solution, I will start a serious trace of each wire in the harness.

Check the wiring on the two AUX relays. Those are the two large relay mounted under the metal plate. Those relays power on or off most of the circuits in the car with the key singal.

Thanks, I will try those before I start pulling out wires.

Do you have a good schematic ?

I have a very "dog eared" wiring diagram as I have been using it a lot. I did find the problem with it not cutting off when the key was removed. This was a simple fix. Seems like the PO or someone had seen a loose (purple/w) wire near the ballast resistors and saw a empty terminal on the resistors so it was plugged in, but this wire turned out to be one of the wires to a broken engine compartment light switch (always hot) which is located right next to the resistors. Once I removed it, the ignition switch functioned properly. Now I still have some issues like no lights in the rear tail lights and a horn that won't work so I am tracing those down individually. Some information to pass along is that I fond that the fuses seemed to have some type of black contamination on the tabs. I took each one out and cleaned the tabs. That fix resulted in returning a lot of the electrical items.
The engine does not run well if it starts at all and I think that if I can get all the electrical issues fixed that might change as the engine fuel seems to be electrically controlled. The car has been sitting a long time so I figured I would have a lot of things to check out.
