Hi all,
Just wanted to know, and if you guys can post pictures of all the different type of DeLorean Door sill dress up kits out there.
I've seen just the letters covered up with S/S, then a S/S that covers most of the sill except the letters, I believe I've also seen illuminating letters as well!
Post what you got!!
Thank you!

OK.
My car originally came with the version that filled the full running lenghts (see picture farthest most right one), and it seemed like a glue nightmare (shown as removed). I then replaced them with the simpler "DMC" reverse stainless (left one, in picture).

(I changed the plastic sill piece at the time, because it was really fouled up with glue, and thought I'd eventually clean it out with more time.)
If I had the $s, I'd put the ones that light up. Those look really cool. :cool1:

If I had the money, I'd do flat stainless steel running boards with "DeLorean" engraved in the DMC font along the back side, and John DeLorean's signature engraved along the front edge

Got this from the internet.
I like this idea, but a bit too much for me.
I have the SS "DMC" in the door sills.

You can get them from Dave and Julee at DMCMW. I tried to look at their webpage and give you a link, but it's down for some reason.
They are $400.00 if memory serves and you have to pay a 50.00 core on your current running boards assuming they are usable. I have been meaning to pick up a set for myself.

Hi Guys, I do these, for reference, if you want them shipped to the USA, add £5.00.
Regards Julian

I also have the rear bumper letters @ £20.00. If you order the bumper letters & sill letters together shipping is still only £5.00.

Sorry about the website -it's still having some linking issues by I certainly can't explain it.
The illuminated door sills are no longer available.

I have a set of custom carbon fiber door sill overlays. Embedded in the carbon fiber is the usual "DMC" in the usual place, followed in smaller letters by "Twin Turbo", which my car has. Sorry, don't ask for pictures, car is in winter storage and I am 1600 miles away.

No more illuminated door sills? That's a real bummer...I was definitely going to try and order them this month. Now what will I get myself for Christmas?

I have an idea but I'll put it on another thread since it's not door sills.

Sorry, I did not explain right. I got the picture from the internet, not the illuminated logo. I think it is nice, but I would not install this on my D.

Wow - if you can tell left vs. right on that photo, you're pretty good.
Oh yeah -there's a hint of floormat in one shot.

In another thread I posted one picture of my stainless steel insert glued to the black plastic door sill. Descriptions of where I bought it are in my post number 24.

I saw on another owners car in LA last month he had just painted the DMC letters with a silver paint marker. It looked very good. I didn't even know it was paint until I commented on how good the stainless letters looked and he told me no, look closer, it's paint.

Can anyone tell where I can buy the SS doorsills letters but where the SS goes over the ribs from left to right? (like in the picture)
And question 2, how are they glued? Did it happen before one of those long lines came loose and got stuck between the door?
Thanks,
John

I'm pretty sure PJ Grady sells those in 3 different ways:
DMC letters in stainless
Recessed in stainless leaving the black DMC
Recessed in stainless and ribs recessed in stainless(like you want in the pic)
They stick on with adhesive double sided tape. I have had mine for over a year and I am a madman when it comes to plastic dressing. As long as it's clean it should stay.

The hard part on those particular panels is keeping the long strips in place. They don't seem to stick well.

Agreed. I had to get rid of mine, event though they looked great. They just didn't seem to stick for too long, even with lots of prep and cleaning.

I already mention what I did in post number 17. Just follow the link in post number 17.
I had to use a separate adhesive because the self adhesive back side of the stainless steel many months later started to let go of the black plastic.

I'l give that a try at PJ Grady. US or UK?
Are those lines folded on the side so they slide over the ribs and can not slide left or right? (I noticed to one was bending outwards)
Maybe they can be glued with epoxy, that will never let go. We do not have such hot temperatures in Belgium anyway, but I am not a fan of double sided tape.

Here is a close up of the stainless steel inserts.
The ss insert does not reach to the end. There will be a small gap in between the ss and black plastic as shown in the pictures.
I couldn't find my receipt so I don't know who I bought them from. I believe it was

They will probably not reach until the end to cope with tolerances.
But nice pictures, thanks.
I contacted both PJ Grady's in the UK and USA, but to response so far.
A year ago I sent them an E-Mail too and they never replied then either :frown:
It has been a few days only so maybe they will react later.
But someone knows someone else selling that?
John

JohnAs far as I know it's just PJ Grady's selling that exact one, but don't quote me on that. I checked DMC Europe, and they don't have it. DMC California has something similar here (http://deloreanmotorcenter.com/_a000026s_door_sill_silhouette_set.html), but it looks like it's just that one square and not the lines to the sides. Let us know if you hear back from PJ Grady's; I'm interested in getting a pair myself.

I do mean the ones with the lines like in the picture.
PJ Grade in the UK and the USA do not respond so far.
I will try again or call PJ Grady in the UK.

I purchased mine through PJGrady in New York. He had them.......

Neither PJ grady US or UK responded....
I would not be surprised if they saw the message but don't have it. I hate it when people do not bother to at least give an answer.
I know someone who can make this as well, I will give that a try. If he can, I will see if a chromed version would be nice. Plenty of shops around doing that.

John,
The long SS sill pieces were made by Ken Koncelic several years ago and Sold thru PJ Grady. I'm not sure if the original production sold out or not. You might try DMCCA or DMCNW. DMCMW carried a few sets a few years ago (I bought mine from them) but they are now Sold Out.
FWIW: I had the the Long version too. Later I converted to the DMCMW Illuminated Sills. I liked the look of the long strips so I cut them off the original piece and transfered them too the illuminated sill. I did have issues with them releasing from the plastic originally. I ended up using and adhesion promoter I have available to me at work. (3M primer 94) unfortunately it is not availble to the general public (commercial use only). It made all the difference in the world. They have all stayed put ever since.

Thanks for the info. I have access to that stuff too.
Looks like I am stuck with creating it myself. It is a winter job anyway becasue I want to spraypaint the dooropenings.
Did you have any damage on the plastic parts by removing the metal strips?

NO. The adhesion was not the best. I was able to gently lift each strip by working from the ends to the center with a long narrow screw driver under each strip, working one at a time. The sticky tape stayed on the metal. I cut the strips off after the whole SS piece was removed from the sill.

By any chance, do you know if she did anything with her door sills? I'm curious now.

Here is a picture of the lighted door sills I have had for around 3 years. I put blue vinyl over the white screen and now have a blue lighted sill the matches the blue stripe I have on the car. They were easy to install and I like the look and everyone who has seen them likes them. I got them from Dave at DMCMW but I dont think he carries this any more.27859
