Combine this: http://www.vat19.com/dvds/levitron-revolution-floats-levitates-objects.cfm

With this: http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Select-Exclusive-Vehicle-Delorean/dp/B001UFQNF0

If I had 200 to burn I'd probably get one for my desk.

That's a great idea! The DeLorean is a little too heavy though, need to get it under 12 ounces. Maybe if you had one of those plastic models they sold in the 90s, that'd be perfect.

Even better if you can hide the base station under something.

1 kg = ~ 2.2 lbs.

I'd bet you could get one of those 1:24 scale Time Machine replicas and tweak the wheels so that it's in flying mode and then set it up on this device.... That would be one bad ass desk ornament!

i love magnets & DeLoreans.
we need to find a way for this to work.

as a side note, i would imagine the floating platform would have to be installed exactly on the center of gravity of both the x & y axes.

Personally I'd wanna put a styrofoam hoverboard on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNX1hTEI_W8 Now, if I could manage up amp up the power of the magnets I'd do a "hover conversion" of a Delorean and just leave it parked in the garage. How cool would that be to show your kids the movie and then have one hovering in the garage

.. or buy the Japanese Plastic Kit from BTTF PT2 and use that as the display, nice and light. :)

The plastic 1:24 AMT/ERTL model would definitely be light enough to work, but I'm not sure about the 1:18 or 1:15 models. Both probably exceed the 12oz weight limit.

A foam hoverboard would be insanely cool. You could even hollow out a circular section of the foam board and hide the platform inside making it appear as if the board itself is actually floating, not just sitting on a floating platform.

I am glad to see I wasn't the first to come up with that idea. That is awesome.
