Hi Guys,

My D is "euro spec" or at least something like that: it has no catalytic converter, that's for sure. It runs on unleaded fuel and needs no additives (like lead-replacement additive or whatever). FYI the transmission is automatic. (The rear lamps are regular, there is no circular side repeater, the rear side marker is red so it's not 100% euro-spec.)

The problem is the following: the engine seems to have no EVAP (Evaporative Control System). There are no vacuum hoses going from the left part of the engine into the "wall". Also, there is no microswitch (which controls engine idle RPM). The fuel cap is sealed.

Is this a modification which is related to the "euro spec" conversion or is this a main defect/error/fault? The engine is working good, I travelled 1500 miles with the car (from Belfast, Northern Ireland to Budapest, Hungary).

Here are some pictures:

in Ed's webshop:
http://www.delorean.eu/catalog/index.php?cPath=19_25_52 - the whole stuff in the upper part of the picture seems to be missing
http://www.delorean.eu/catalog/index.php?cPath=19_25_53 - the bottom right-hand side of the picture seems to be missing

Thanks for your help!

I don't have the answer to your questions, but I have one of my own for you. I noticed your engine cover is grey. To my knowledge, this only occurs in the 500 VIN series. Is your car an early car? It doesn't have the coolant hose routing like the early ones, but that could have been changed. It is also possible that you have one of the cars that were sent to Germany to Bosch emissions testing. Some of them have some equipment that was removed or added while they were used for testing purposes. Just curious, thanks!

Hi,

the VIN is not early, it's 5930, the other questions - I don't know.

the car has a registration in Northern Ireland since 1995, but I don't know if it ever has been in the U.S. or not.

Part numbers on the fuel distributor, CPR, ignition distributor would say for sure. But what it looks more likely is that the car was previously in the hands of someone who either didn't know the stock systems and didn't want to learn, or flat out didn't like them for some reason. The stuff has been removed and bypassed.

Your fuel cap is stock though, nothing unusual there, and your "what's this hose" is the vacuum line for your brake booster.

Yeah that's no "Euro-Spec" and if somebody told you something similar to sell
it to you, he for sure lied.

There simply has been ripped a ton of stuff out !

And where is the wiring harness that crosses the intake manifold ?
Jump start post has been disconnected.
Where is the ISM ? And the idle switch has been removed, also.

Only an US style car with charcoal canister would have a sealed fuel cap.
How can air enter the fuel tank now ?

No Delorean needs lead or additives ! This is an 80s car, not 60s :-)

Sombody sold you only 90% of the car.
As longs as it runs and you don't get in trouble because of the laws in your
country - enjoy it. For sure you have no hunting idle :-)

I bet there has been modified much more.
Try to get as much information as you can from the PO to know what has been done.
This will be very helpful for troubleshooting in the future.

Electrical system ? It may be helpfup to see pics of the electrical compartment.

Enjoy.

I agree with Elvis, you are missing a lot of stuff. The hose from the fuel tank is still there in pix #3 but I can't tell where it goes. It looks like you could put everything back if you can find all of the bits (parts).

I saw the car and it works perfectly, but I don't understand, that why all those parts are needed at all, if everything works without them? :)

Emmisions?

Here's a fun fact.

This car was Concours winner at the 2001 Eurofest, and has had the same owner since before then.

So has it been like this all along?

It can be made to work without them. Doesn't mean its working correctly.

Right now idle is likely controlled through the bypass screws, which would provide no active feedback to varying engine loads. The tank is being vented to atmosphere instead of through the charcoal canister. Jump starting would be much more difficult.

It's hard to tell in the photo if the idle motor is there. It'd be interesting to look under the air cleaner to see if there's a frequency valve. Maybe it's a pre-lamba fuel distributor.

More info to be found here, basically this car was never fitted with a 'standard' D engine instead a 2.7L was fitted.

I read this, but can it be possible? DMCL ordered 29999 2,8l PRV6 engine and 1 2,6l?
