Is leaking roof/doors a common issue for the DeLorean? If so, is it mainly just a matter of replacing weather-stripping, or does it require a more complicated procedure?

My DeLorean has always had a leak problem. I would suggest, if you havent already, to make sure all of your door seals are new.

If the problem persists, sometimes the headliner material gets stuck underneath the seal rubber and that sometimes allows the headliner to soak up rain water that's gathered there in the door channel.

Yes

Depends on where it leaks. Sometimes it is the seals, sometimes the windshield adhesive, somtimes porosities in the fiberglass which can be a real treat to find.

When I got my car the driver footwell was damp. The outer door seals are knackered and/or missing and are going to be replaced, so I hope that was the route of the water ingress. There's no sign of water getting in anywhere else which is a good thing.

Leaks were such a problem, especially on the early cars, that DMC distributed a service bulletin. In fact, it is one of the longest service bulletins issued! Do the inner and outer door seals, make sure the channels around the doors are not filled with gunk, and if the leaks persist go over the whole service bulletin. It is ST-33-12/81. It is 12 pages long. Remove the Tee top and check inside the roof. Some cars can get really nasty in there.

I believe I got lucky. I've got the original weatherstripping and I had a few leaks. If I washed the car on a sunny day then got in and drove it the roof would leak.

I got some 3M weatherstripping glue and re-adhered the stripping in some loose and suspect areas. No more leaks.

What is this "roof box" you speak of? I've never checked mine... That I'm aware of, I'd sure hate for my doors to fall off. Anyone have any stories or pics of this roof box thing?

On a side note I'm getting 1258 ready for her exhibition in January and door seals are on the list. Does anyone have any recommended adhesives or methods for installing the new stripping? Also any recommended solvents for removing old ass, nasty, crusty adhesive that was trying to hold the old stripping on.
