Florida Antique Plates for Delorean

I just got my 2012 registration form for my Delorean.

Has anyone looked into getting Antique plates for our cars? Here is what it says on the web site. It looks like we can do it this year.

(3) “Antique” tag with light blue background “ANTIQUE” plate if the modified or unmodified car, truck or motorcycle was manufactured in 1946 or later AND is 30 years old or more, AND equipped with an engine of 30 years old or more. Thus they are post-war vehicles but with 30 plus year old engines and bodies. These are non-permanent tags and DO have to be renewed each year. (Eg.: a 1948 Chevy with a 1977 engine can’t be registered with an Antique tag until the year 2007.) [Permanent, non-transferable Antique tags are only issued for old fire apparatus, historical or military vehicles where Form HSMV 83045‡ applies.] RS-25*

I am also getting one. They used to be free. However with Florida not missing a beat to make a buck either through the newer intersection light camera's and numerous increases in registration fees they are no longer free. If I remember correctly when I called last year they are now half the price of a regular plate. One new thing coming up is toll roads throughout Florida.

When I registered my car in March, the D qualified for antique status, and they dropped the registration fee automatically to antique. I considered ordering the antique plates but was informed that you can not do vanity antique plates. So I went with the regular vanity plates, and with the antique status I pay the same amount as regular plates.

Well for what it is worth I changed over my old Florida Plate for an antique plate. $68 dollars for the privilege of adding one ugly dull baby blue plate to my D.

In Louisiana, it was worth paying for the Antique Designation license plate for two reasons:

- no emissions inspection
- fewer people revving their engines at me

I thought about it when I first got my car, but something about a antique plate on a Delorean just doesn't seem right. Here in Tn., its a one time fee of 50.00. I decided to do the personalized tag of 65.00 per year and its a lot more fun. People always smile when they see "NO WAX".

Sometimes I can actually read their lips in the rear view mirror when they are stopped behind me " Nooo waxxx" then the passenger will crane his arms out to the side explaining to the others in the car about the doors. :)

In Alabama you can get the antique plates but then the car is only allowed to drive to shows and the mechanic. They are also not personalized.

Delorean03 has an antique tag on his D. I remember because a Volkswagen at the cruise in had a plate 1 number off. Plus it started with BLO so he got twice the cocaine comments.
