Need advice on wheels that are starting to peel.

I'm in the process of getting Vin 10439 back on the road and we have noticed some peeling that's starting to take place on some of the wheels (mostly around the DMC emblem) should I look into getting someone local to strip and powder coat them? If so, what kind of money can I expect to pay to have it done properly? Thanks for the help...

If you can find a local powder coating place I think the going rate for wheels is somewhere between 100-200 per wheel to have it stripped and re-coated. If you have any pitting or curb rash you may need to pay extra to have the wheel cleaned up first.

Dave at DMCMW (In crystal lake, IL) has a place that refinishes wheels and the color match is pretty much dead on to the original silver color.

If you're looking at refinishing wheels you could also consider the 'machined finish' on the front face of the spokes. The last time someone asked price was 225 per wheel. They get stripped down to bare metal, powder coated, and then the front face is machined to bare aluminum, then the wheels are clear coated. Here's another thread about it here:

If you're looking for a place local to just do wheel refinishing I hear these guys are pretty good too. They have a local shop in Springfield, so you are in luck. You could try contacting them for a quote.

Thanks Mark.... I'm going to go see the local AWRS wheel repair shop today and see what they recommend....Go Packers! I lived in the Milwaukee area for 5 years prior to being transferred to Springfield last year.

I could have sworn there is more information about getting the wheels refinished on this forum. But, I must be thinking of the old dmctalk.com site.

Here is a thread where I show my machined rims with a silver/gray powder coated center and the face of the 45 spokes are machined to bare metal and then clear powder coated.

Mine were chipping and flaking off too. I found a local guy that sandblasted and powder coated all four tires for under $250. Make sure you shop around.
