Taillight Boards

Does anyone know if/where you can purchase the PJ Grady upgraded taillight boards other than through PJ Grady? I've called and left messages over the past couple of days and nobody there answers the phones or returns calls. *shrug*

In the meantime, I've taken my existing boards and thoroughly soldered the connections from the rivets to the board. While it works great now, there's no telling how long it'll last.

Keep in mind the time of year. I have no idea of their holiday hours, but they may not be in until later this week, or even next week.

Due to the nature of our cars, many are away for the season anyhow. If you live where snow is a rarity or nonexistent, it won't be long until they're back and you can order the boards.

FWIW, the other D up here has their boards. Well worth it, both in price and having to wait a few days to get them.

Rob might be away for the holidays - it is usually him at the shop and then someone on the phones part time. I would try again next week as I am sure he would have gotten back to you if the shop was open. I have his boards and am very happy. Before that, I went through months of "touch-and-go" lights working at random (had to pull them like 5 times). For safety and headaches, that is something you should be sure works properly and dependably.

Definitely hold out for those tail light boards! They are very well made and worth every penny.

I'll be happy to give PJG the benefit of the doubt and I'll try ringing them up again next week. I've no experience ordering from them but I've never heard anything but positive things, so it's worth another shot. Especially since the boards are so highly regarded.

It would have been nice if their "hours of operation" recording mentioned they would be closed for holidays (and when) though.

Yeah man. Its Christmas/New Years time. I try to keep that in mind when I call places on my days off. Basically I don't expect places to be open if I'm off work for a holiday.

Anyway, I would just call him again sometime next week. His boards are a bit expensive but they are worth the wait and worth every penny.

If you are in a bind and need your boards to work for the weekend just follow the instructions from the DML.

PJ Grady is closed this week for the holidays. I spoke to Rob a week ago. I have his boards and agree that they are definitely worth waiting for. They are considerably superior to the OEM ones.

Man, PJ Grady may do good work and have good products but their business operations are pretty terrible. Been trying to get someone over there to answer the phone since around 9am this morning, and there just doesn't ever seem to be anyone there. Conversely, I called DMCH this morning for a quick unrelated question and they answered the phone immediately. (Yes I understand they're a much larger outfit, but then why have a phone line at all?)

It also doesn't help that the PJG website is largely non-functional and broken, and has been for a long time.

I almost want to buy the shitty OEM boards from DMC instead of Grady's upgraded versions only because I at least know I'd be able to actually ORDER the damn things. :(

I bought a set of Rob's tail light boards in 1999 for VIN 6032 and had them transferred over to 10921 in 2001 when I traded for the first refurbished DeLorean sold by DMC Texas. The boards are still working fine and I have never had to replace a bulb. If they are still available you will only need to buy them once.

Neither, really. I didn't think to ask why they're not listed on the site anymore, but Rob also didn't really indicate that the product was going away.

He did mention that they no longer come with the bulbs though, as an effort to keep costs down. So I suspect he still plans on carrying them.

As already mentioned, I've done both of these things to my current boards. Cleaned them thoroughly top-to-bottom back and front, and reinforced each of the socket joints with a good clean soldering job. They work a lot better than they did before I hit them with the works, but even so, the connectivity is still only teetering on flaky.

The corrosion on the OEM boards has simply gotten excessive and in some areas the board contacts are peeling away. I've patched what I can with solder to get them working reliably temporarily, but the long-term "right way" fix is to replace them outright.
