The windshield washer pump works..

Actually, I finally got around to hooking up a battery in 3589. I was thrilled to see pretty much everything works! Lights all work, except the right rear red side light, and the engine bay rear light. All the dash lights seem to work, as does the radio and the clock. The fan blows (yeah, lots of acorns in there!) and the turn signals all work.

The wipers work, as does the washer pump (25 year old washer fluid still comes out!). The drivers side windows went up for the first time in 25 years, but the passenger side window doesn't do anything when I tried to raise it, but I heard the motor run when I tried to lower it, so I'll have to look at that.

Even the cigarette lighter popped out after a minute (I accidentally pushed it in when I first got in the car last July)

So, I had the buzzing from the engine, decided to see if it would turn over; YEP!! Cranked over fine (I only cranked it 3 times for 2 seconds each). The fuel pump is not in the car, I was curious if it would turn over, it did very easily.

After stepping back and checking it out, and feeling really really good, I flipped the battery disconnect switch, and closed the doors. It was then I noticed that I had anti-freeze leaking from the rear of the car. A quick trace found it leaking slightly (about 1 drip every 10 seconds) from the water pump weep hole. Not surprising, I would expect the seals to be hardened into place by now. So, I have to add a water pump to my fuel pump order tomorrow.

All in all, a GREAT DAY!

That's cool! Always nice to hear a "sleeping beauty" story. From experience I had to replace my water and fuel pump after a 7 year sleep. Alot of people have told me these are common items to replace first.

Also I happened to be at PJ Gradys last year when he was working on a car that had been parked for 25 years. In our discussion I told him my biggest fear with somethig like that was valve springs that have been compressed for 25 years in the same position along with a partially open exhaust/ intake valve letting outside air in. Surpisingly he told me these are generally not problem areas for a DeLorean. One thing he did tell me was on this particular car rubber and debris had deteriorated and clumped up inside the fuel lines. In this case it was in the return line. Not really sure where it came from but if you have acess to air maybe try to blow out those fuel lines just to make sure they're clear.

Thanks Chris, my wife was so excited to see some progress she "authorized me" top order the pumps! (I was supposed to get rid of our 1959 Austin Healey "Bugeye" Sprite first before I spent any money on the Delorean, but she's so excited she let me go after the Delorean :-)

I still need to pull the injectors and have them cleaned, but I am SO PUMPED so much stuff worked...

Can't wait to cruise in her!
