Hello everybody,

I write articles from time to time in the Dutch Delorean magazine "Dashboard". This time I wrote an article about barn find Deloreans. I did quite some research on it and got to know some very interesting stories.
But the pictures I got from the internet are not good enough to be used in a magazine. Most of those pictures are in a poor quality. either old or made with a cell phone.

Is there anyone who can post some decent quality pictures of abandoned, barn find, etc DeLoreans?

Would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot,
John

Not sure if any of these can help, but you have my permission to use these of 3589, pulled out of a garage in Paducah, Kentucky, U.S.A after sitting for 25 years under blankets and carpet material. Car was discovered in 2011 with 12,888 miles on it.

PM me for more if you'd like,

Would you happen to have those pictures in 1 or 2MB?
If so can you e-mail them to me? (Will send you my E-mail address)

I should have taken a picture of 10715 when it was in my dad's driveway last winter, before I got married. She wasn't exactly "abandoned" per se, but with the torn louvres and scratched up quarter panel, it was not a pretty sight!

(Kudos again to Joe Pace for fixing that for me.)

Thanks for the pics Jonathan.
I need them to be at least 1MB to be good for printing, but I like to see any picture.
Increadible, they must have some value, how can someone let such a car to rot?

I could have used that console.... (for a test-project)

My Car was sitting for about 15 Years in a barn, before the PO bought it, did a lot of mechanical stuff and finally sold it to me.
Attached are a view pictures directly after the car arrived in Germany at my home.

But as I saw the other pictures in this thread, I feel like my car was in perfect condition :tongue2:

Best wishes

I have 3 abandoned Columbus, OH Delorean pictures for you....

I've been told these have been sitting for over 20 years...they are in two separate locations....

The below picture actually shows two Deloreans clustered together in downtown Columbus, OH area apartment complex in an "questionable" area......

Damn...that is too bad. Hard to understand people sometimes?!?!
My "Insurance" brain is telling me that there is always that little glimmer of hope that some how, some way the owner keep "comprehensive" coverage on that poor D while it was sitting in the driveway.....Probably just wishful thinking on my part though.... :hmm:

Yeah, that's a real shame. Actually makes me feel a little depressed. Weird how people would just let the car just sit there like that for so long - I don't get it.
It's hard to see how extensive the damage is, but now that thing is basically a parts car (minus panels).

Tried to get a pic of the vin, but a sun visor in the windshield prevented it..........

How is it that one tail light can fade that bad? When I first got my car my DS rear turn signal lens was pretty faded. Ended up trading with another owner to get a good one.

I've seen quite a few other cars that have the one faded tail light issue...I read a long time ago that during production there were a few bad batches of parts from the supplier that did not have UV protectant in the plastic. Some cars got one good lens and one bad, others both bad, others both good.

My car has spent most of its life in a garage but I can see one lense is very orange and the other is a slight faded yellowish orange.

maybe it's just the picture, but it doesn't look like the sunshade would cover the dash vinplate. All those pine needles & debris, yes, but clear them off and I would think its readable.

Doogie
07-06-2012, 08:35 AM
..who called my while taking the pictures, the sun shade had "collapsed" on the drivers side just enough to cover the vin plate. I told him to see if the door was unlocked!

Think that was a little too much... :-)

Not always, my passenger side is faded. I sure wish I knew if any of the remaining NOS lenses would have that issue or not. It can be worthwhile to get a non-faded one off of a car with one that already is faded, because then you know its been exposed to what fades it and it held up just fine. I've seen several trades happen right in front of me but have never been able to get in on one myself yet.

Yeah, much as I would like to know the vin, that's one step too many. Taking pictures of a car parked in public is one thing, but opening the door I think may cross into B&E. At that point I would knock on the door and ask permission.

DeloreanJoshQ

The tree crash 1983 Delorean is VIN 20036(one of the last 70 built, and possibly right here in Columbus, OH).
The sunshade has fallen more since the hot weather has beaten down on it in the last week.

I was just there a little bit ago. As Doogie has shown you, there is not much damage considering......the T-Panel, windshield, and rear quarter all need work, as does the very rusty frame underneath. The seat covers are suprisingly in good shape, but the dash and binnacle of couse need replaced along with numerous other sun-faded and damaged parts both inside and out.
The owner was not home because his air conditioner broke down in his house over 20 years ago, says the neighbors. There was a small crowd out front today after I pulled up in 3307.
The neighbors also said he has a hoarder personality/tendencies(inside house is a time capsule, stacks and stacks of newspapers, junk, etc.), is a Vietnam Vet, has had a stroke, is in his mid-seventies, has no family in the state, and has run for political office(senator) numerous times with no success. He has also answered the door naked, so they say. However, he is still mobile, as he does drive his car.

I have a good friend that has plenty of resources to resurrect the car, regardless of cost and he is going to try anything he can.

However, it will be a very difficult task under the circumstances. I'll let you all know if there are any updates on this car. I'll post more pics of the car later that my friend took today while there.

Anyone know if any of these owners are willing to SELL their abandoned Deloreans?
I know it's a lot of work to restore a Delorean in this condition, but I'd rather have a project car to fix up with my old man, than seeing them in this condition.

This makes me SO sad to see. :frown:

We went back today and the owner was home...he answered the door in his underwear...

Anyhow, he said:
He will be buried in it and he also said he's donating it to his original high school he graduated from (hopefully he means one or the other, and the latter).
It has 170,000 miles on it and he drove it from the west to east coast and Florida, etc.
He bought it in 1984 at KAPAK in Columbus, OH and it's one of the last 70 built(which we confirmed by VIN).
He knows Jerry Rine and Stephen Wynne...
It has another engine in it and he has the original in the garage.
The battery went dead in it and he has another set of tires in the garage
It last ran in 1998 he says....he used it for his political campaign....

That closes the book on this car until the estate sale or will confirms where it will end up.

Apparently so but the full story was lost in the old archives of this forum i read?
Shame..

I am looking to find an image of mine. Must have been sitting on some road side in a Michigan neighborhood since 1993.
I can tell as the whole left side of the frame was more corroded than the right. Which means it got sprayed with salt from winter road services.
