Keep the stock exhaust?

I'm going to be removing the stock exhaust soon, as I have ordered a Spec 1. Is there any worth in hanging on the any of the stock exhaust components, or should I just sell the heap for scrap?

Im not sure what what scrap is going for these days but I'd inquire and then ebay them with a scrap reserve on them. If you are going Spec 1 I dont see why you'd go back.

Stock engine - I don't see much need for anything other than stock. 2 grand-ish plus labor for installation doesn't yield enough HP to justify the cost IMO.

We need to get you behind the wheel of a SPEC I car so you can feel the difference. The stock exhaust is very restrictive and with a properly tuned SPEC I kit you can really feel the difference in throttle response and low end torque.
This can't be accomplished with just a converter delete. Definitely going to make this happen. Hope to see you at one of the DMA meets or at DCS this year.

And you'll be doing the work yourself. That will save you plenty. In fact, it will save you enough to come back down to NC to visit myself and Todd during the summer and feast your eyes on what DPI is gonna do to my #16128.:yesss: You know you want some more BBQ as well!

First off, I'm just going by what I've been told. Other than my own personal car with stock engine / exhaust I've never driven another let along one with a stage 1, 2, or 3.

Outside of buying parts from you (still loving my Eibach lowering kit!), my DeLorean guy is Rob Grady since he's close to me in location. Not to start a flame war, just quoting the man, but he insists that a STOCK engine will not benefit enough to justify a two thousand dollar purchase. He feels that a simple cat converter delete will yield almost the same amount of power a full huston stage one exhaust upgrade will. The cat delete is WAY cheaper than a new full exhaust set up.

On a note of opinion he also said he's yet to hear an exhaust solution that he really liked. I asked if he heard your set up and he said no. He was only familiar with the DMCH set up and wasn't thrilled with it. Something about highway drone, etc...

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on an upgraded exhaust. I love the idea of having headers, no cat, free flowing exhaust, etc... He keeps talking me out of it though! Tells me to bank the money and chuck the cat. That I'll feel 90% of the gain with 90% of the savings.

Interested in your opinion as always.

If nothing else I'd keep the stock muffler just because it's cool looking and is one of the few parts on the car to actually have a DMC logo stamped in it. In fact, it might be the only place on the whole car that DMC-12 is written (but correct me if I'm wrong)

Hi. I recently bought two header and a Magnaflow muffler but haven't installed anything yet. I only installed the cold air intake.
My D was bought without a muffler. I do not exactly know why the previous seller would remove the muffler but not the catalytic converter. I think he had a hit from behind that scapped the muffler.
I can wait the installed the muffler and header _ my D is making a lot of noise!
The headers cost me aroud 700$ canadian, The muffler 125$; both from Hervey . The installation could probably cost me 400$. I will have to figure out what to do with the oxygen sensor.

I have the DPI Spec 1 system and love it. Definitely no highway drone and there was an obvious performance boost too. The nice part about it is you get a performance boost without illegally removing the CAT (which makes operating the car illegal on any US road). As for the old exhaust, I ended up chucking most of it. The manifolds needed so much R&R, it just wasn't worth it. Nobody needs a cross-over pipe replaced, so the demand wasn't there. I did keep a few brackets since I recall hearing a demand for a few and the old CAT as I plan to sell it to a local recycler one of these days. So aside from the brackets and the CAT, the rest went into the garbage and metal scrap recycling bins.

For anyone who is interested I have a COMPLETE exhaust system with manifolds and all of the brackets off of the car I installed the Island Turbo kit on. Includes a distributor. Eventually I probably will junk it. The converter is worth about $50 scrap.

Put it on eBay as "gently used, OEM factory". Put it up for sale and start the bidding at $10,000. Sounds about right if a shift knob is going for $500.00.

My car too, doesn't have the muffler. onlythe crossover pipe and the cat, but no muffler. I didn't check if the cat is empty thou...With the PO this car had and his mechnic guy...I wouldn't be surprise if it's empty !

It join in the cat than go in the center (where the muffler is) and then split back in 2 sectin for the tips.

It is loud, but everybody tells me they love it, it does sond like a V8.
But yeah, it is loud on the highway, but I like it !

I took a video of my stock exhaust before I removed it and I'll be taking a video of the DPI exhuast I just finished installing as soon as one issue (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?2694-Cost-Time-to-Install-Full-Exhaust&p=37177#post37177) is taken care of.
I will record the "after" video in the same conditions as the before (camera and environment) so when one hears the after video, there is something to compare it to to judge the context.
