SO, looking to fix my original radio if possible.
Radio functions fine, reception is fair with the glass mount antenna
The tape works, sometimes. Typically it runs a little slow, sometimes it locks up and won't play at all. FF & rewind typically works. I think the belt may be going bad.
Also would be nice to add an aux input too, how realistic is this?
Any ideas as to difficulty / obtaining parts?

Opening one up is like a memory puzzle to remember where all the little screws and gears go. You might be able to clean the drive mechanism with some electrical contact cleaner or something if it's gummy and not running smooth. I don't know how successful you'd be tearing into one and having a chance to fix it without really knowing the source of the problem though.
I know people have modified theirs to accept an auxiliary input from an iPod or some other source, so your best bet is probably to get a digital copy of your favorite cassettes and listen to them through an aux input.
Using tapes frequently tends to wear out the ribbon cable on the flip up display anyway, so going the aux route would save on that as well.

Mine sometimes plays this game where it randomizes the radio stations. It's odd when I push my rock station, 101.5, and hear country. I almost had a heart attack the first time thinking the only rock station in town changed formats.

You could get a Wired FM Modulator, and skip adding aux to the Craig. They're cheap, and they hide behind the dash. It connects between the antenna and the Craig, then you tune the Craig to the specified radio station.
Every Wireless FM transmitters I've ever seen/heard has static, and IMHO, is garbage.

All the rubber parts in the transport mechanism are dust. Your best bet is to send the radio out to have it rebuilt but that will be expensive. If you are not that "stuck" on originality the best advice is to get rid of the Craig and get something more modern. Eventually the display will die because the connections will break. Newer radios will be cheaper and have a LOT more functionality. An expensive alternative would be to go with a "hidden" radio where they gut the radio and put modern functions in so it still looks original but will do everything. The windscreen antennae does not work well when you start to get too far from the radio stations. For better reception consider the power antennae in the left, rear pontoon. You *could* add a power booster onto the windscreen antennae but it can only help so much.
