View Full Version : Electrical Solid state relays vs. um, this?

Hey all,

Was planning to put in Dave's Solid State fan and fan-fail relays today, but to be on the safe side, I checked the restoration record of the car provided by the P.O. from PJ Grady and found this entry:

"Install fan sequential controller, 6 interchange relays & 3 circuit breakers"

Does this mean I cannot install these relays? Sounds to me like more was done to the fuse box than just installing a relay box. This sounds more like the process one would follow for the DMCNW relay upgrade kit. So, rather than just starting plugging relays in, I wanted to ask the community if it is even possible?

Mike

So it sounds like they installed Grady's grey box(fanzilla replacement), 6 relays and 3 breakers. You would uninstall the grey box to install Dave's 2 relays. Im not entirely sure what your concern is.

Wasn't sure if the 6 relays and 3 breakers changed the configuration for the fan wiring to the point that they would play havoc with the solid state relays.

I've got Bitsyncmaster's Fan and Fan Fail relays and got rid of the circuit breaker.
It's a real im[provement over the 3 prong wire and often failing circuit breaker.
I know a failing circuit breaker means circuitry/parts problems.
However Dave's new "stuff" signals problems very acurately and specifies the source better then ever before.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the otterstat bypass, Sean. Fans work fine.

Naw, I think you're fine. Just remove Grady's grey box and pop in Dave's relays. The 6 relays on the invoice are just referring to the interchangable relays, 7 in all but since the fan sequencer takes place of one of them it only required 6 when your car got serviced.

Cool. Thanks. Gonna install them now.
