Looks like another product from Delorean Cadillac.

Looks nice. If it was mine I might restore the black bumpers and body trim to black as well as the louvers and side vents. The all white paint screams cheap but that's just a personal opinion.

They could of at least left the trim pieces black. Oh well it can be fixed!:rock_on:

Good lord I hate white DeLoreans.

I Love this line:

MY FATHER ONCE SAID THAT THIS CAR AND THE PURPLE ONE WITH THE RIMS CHROMED ONCED BELONGED TO JOHN DELOREAN HIMSELF. AND IT MAKES SENSE IF YOU HAVE 10 DELOREANS TO PAINT SOME OF THEM.

Don't be ridiculous, lol. John DeLorean never owned DeLoreans; especially not after 1982. Why would you own something that all but destroyed you. Kathryn even spoke of how they NEVER even mentioned the car and how John prefered things like yellow NSX's.

Oh well, I guess people have all sorts of stories. Heck when people ask me where I got the car I've told them John DeLorean gave it to me for helping him build a deck. Guess you cant trust anyone...

LMAO! I love that. I'm going to use that some time.

I agree with DMC3165 that it really needs some of the black rubber accents. When I first saw it I thought that someone just painted the whole thing with white house paint. Really cheap looking.

I'm not a hater of painted D's but this one looks really bad!

personally, i think painted DeLoreans can look really nice if done correctly (e.g., Rob Grady). that being said, i dont think any car looks good with every single bit painted the same color...

i agree, leave some trim, etc. to break up the monotony.

lol! the way I see it, John D owned ALL of these cars at one point... :deviltail:

As to this car, I guess this is the white of the famous barn find cars. Honestly, I thought he sold off the white one as well. Off hand from the pics, WAAAY too much white. The white on white on white on white look could only be made complete by adding a set of white wall tires to it.

Waaay overboard with the paint sprayer. A little contrast would have been nice, but that's my take. Looks decent in the pics if one were to pick it up.

As to the car, as long as it's bones are in good shape, could be a nice restoration project for someone who wants a lower priced painted car.

Other than the obvious trim pieces, the other concern is the mechanicals. If that's been sitting for a long time hopefully the frame is ok, the motor isn't shot (from lack of use), and transmission doesn't need an overhaul. The Delorean drive train does not like to sit at all!:( Some one with the money can make this a great project car.

Any thoughts on why it is Grafton OH (as were all the "Three D's in a Barn - well Cleveland anyway) but it was titled in June in Homer Glen IL, 350 miles away. Did it make that drive? Could it not get an OH title for some reason?

I totally agree with Dave on that one! VERY = approximiately $4000 - $5,000 if you do the work yourself.

I joke with my car club guys and say if something happened to my D, I would paint it all white and have "Ghost 81" for plates.

I would not touch this Delorean with Dave S. 10ft pole. :)

I do think he used his 5ft pole on my car.

Delorean did own one according to stainless steel illusion, but he kept it in storage. Also read somewhere Christina picked up Kathryn from a camp in one during the early 80s

There was an owner a few years ago who picked up a D and found a card with Christina Ferrare's name printed on itfor Pauma Valley country club, or something like that. It was behind the seats, and under the carpet. There is a pic of this car I think in Dream Maker of De Lorean's Pauma Valley house with a DMC-12 parked in the driveway. That was the avocado ranch/house that was sold to help pay for the first set of lawyers (that also leaked the arrest tape). But it was a 2nd confirmation that DMC-12's were spotted up there.

I don't know for certain, but a former employee of Logan Manufacturing said that a customer once traded-in a DMC-12 for an LMC snow groomer. The car was parked @ LMC for a while, and was eventually moved into storage for JZD. Don't know if this is the same car JZD was speaking of that he owned in storage. I once spoke with a taxi driver who moved down from SLC and said that he once had a fare he dropped off @ LMC, and when they pulled up 2 DeLoreans were parked out front (which is probably where the rumors about LMC building DMC-12s and the rumors I kept hearing about De Lorean's secret stash of cars in northern Utah always came from).

You've got to approach painting a DeLorean with caution. I understand why they painted the body trim. The bumpers are tapered, but they just suddenly end. It can look odd with lighter colors where it sticks out more. They tried doing that here and it worked, but it also threw the rest of the aesthetics into a tail-spin.

The trim that was painted white wasn't sanded smooth. If you're gonna color-key mirrors for example, they need to be as smooth as the body itself.
Not all of the trim pieces got painted. We've got white louvers, but the side vents are still black.
The bumpers are painted, but the air dam and the rear valances are left black.
Since we're not used to seeing cars painted, it looks out of place.

That last one is key. Take the Honda CR-V for example. The base models come with black bumpers. Here's an example:
http://o.aolcdn.com/commerce/images/honda_05crv_angularfront_Regular.jpg

Most people don't see anything wrong with this picture. Why? It's factory standard so it's accepted. But for me every time I see one of these things on the street, it looks like it got in a front-end collision, and they were too lazy to paint a replacement bumper. Same thing with painted DeLoreans. They're not factory standard, so for most people they look out of place.

Having said that, if I had the cash I'd certainly take this one off his hands. The car though has one of two ways that it NEEDS to be completed:

Either replace the trim, louvers, and bumpers back to stock black for a nice contrast (as has been done before).

or...

Complete the painting of the remaining trim, sand down and repaint the mirrors to get them glossy, and hit the car up with some gold electroplating. Plate the DMC grille badge, the headlight bezels, the door locks, the hub caps, the rear louver latch, and some bumper letters as well. Likewise you might want to plate the tollbooth window frames as well, or perhaps paint them to match. The whole point really is just to add enough little shiny points for your attention to be diverted away from the bland white paint.

The bidding on it is over 7k now. It will be interesting to see what it sells for. Tone down the "storm trooper" look a bit by painting the trim pieces black and leave it white while the new owner gets all the mechanical stuff done. Then make it stainless again!

Or try visualizing the trim only in the color white: the louver, the front grill, the rear license plate bracket and the vertical side trim white_ the rest stainless and black. Would this look ok? I think no one ever painted these in other color .

Anything is possible with time and money. There are a few members here who've stripped paint and re-brushed the stainless.

Dangermouse

Normally, painted cars just have the stainless steel painted. As stated above, it requires either lots of time or money to strip it down and re-grain.

In this cars case there are many other trim pieces where it may be cheaper just to replace than try and remove the paint.

I asked the same question a few years ago and the guys at DMC-CA told me that they did one a few months prior and the owner was really happy with the results, but the guys that did the job said it didn't look right. Mainly because the regaining of the Stainless Steel didn't look right.

You can do anything with money, it's just a matter of how much your willing to spend.

I dunno how it would look, but I don't know that it would blend with the color palate. Which by it's own right is rather industrial with Black, Gray, and Silver being the primary colors. I could see a perhaps a blended, dark, almost sickly green like the color of the instrument panel, but I think the white could be too contrasting.

Of course I also dig the yellow delorean with the black wheels that everyone hated and said looked like a taxi... To each his own.

John DeLorean never owned DeLoreans; especially not after 1982. Why would you own something that all but destroyed you. Kathryn even spoke of how they NEVER even mentioned the car and how John prefered things like yellow NSX's.

This is an honest question that has been on my mind for some time, so please don't take this the wrong way or murder me for asking but....In SSI, in an interview, John was asked if he owned a DeLorean. He replied that he had one in storage in AZ. Was that a typo or was it a joke? I haven't touched my copy of SSI in a couple of years and have been out of the active community; aside from facebook, for a while. So if this has been discussed about, I apologize. This all being said, I know how Kathryn feels about the car and don't blame her one bit. I'm just curious about the statement in SSI.

I'll have to re-read SSI. I know that Tamir had that one questionnaire that JZD filled out and in that he confirmed that he owned a DMC-12, but this is the only time I've ever heard anything about it's actual location.

I can absolutely understand why Kathryn feels the way that she does about the car. I've had to put up with allot of negative comments directed towards my car over the years, so I can only imagine what kind of schoolyard cruelties she had to endure. Even her brother Zachary came to school one day and someone anonymously wrote "Zacharie's dad is a drug dealer!" on a chalkboard. Now on the flip side of that as well, one should consider the fact that her mother was an influence in regards to how she was told she should view the car. (Full Disclosure: based upon what I've read and researched, I do have a very negative view of Christina Ferrare)

On the flip side of that coin, there are a few stories I've heard of DeLorean owners driving around New Jersey over the years who would have a yellow NSX or an SUV pull up to them at a stoplight and have John De Lorean himself lean out and let them know they had a nice car. Sometimes they'd even pull over and chat.

While the DMC-12 project did essentially destroy De Lorean's career as a industrialist, I seriously doubt that he was ever ashamed of it. I'm sure that if given another chance, he'd have done the whole thing all over again, if not just differently. And that's the thing. He certainly made his mistakes with DMC, and those mistakes were absolutely regrettable. But with the DMC-12 itself there are no regrets. Why should he ever have been ashamed of the car? It was a triumph against all those who said it couldn't be done, and that he could never do it. On top of that it really is a helluva car. There are vehicles with higher production rates, and even lower ones that people willingly scrap. But not the DMC-12. It was designed with building and maintaining a community of enthusiasts in mind when before it was even first conceived on paper. I think that most likely one of the biggest enthusiasts was most likely the man himself. And why wouldn't he be? I've always taken pride in simply rebuilding my car, but it's not my name on the back. De Lorean himself earned that honor. It's just too damn bad he was never allowed to properly display that pride with all the other crap that people tried to throw in his face.

You can join Ferrarichat for free and it is worth it to see all the 133 pictures so far posted to the pearl white DeLorean restoration thread. People will finally believe you that the DeLorean has stainless steel body panels bolted onto a black fiberglass body (people in the UK say glass reinforced plastic instead of fiberglass).
I use the exact same username and password on Ferrarichat and DMC Talk.

Why oh why this person didn't bother to post pictures to the most popular DeLorean forum in the world 'DMC Talk' I will never understand.

The guy doing the posting is an F chat member, but he isn't the guy doing the resto.

But yes, you'd think the resto guy would at least have 1 question he needed answered. Maybe he has a hotline to DMCH.

Well, if it wasn't removed that woulda been the first pic of a white Delorean I have seen. But from the sounds of it the trim is also white. WHY THE HECK WOUL YOU DO THAT!! Well, I guess it could be fixed!

Sorry about that guys. Here are the most recent pics:

Any idea what the mystery car is in the 4th picture, under the cover to the left of the D? From the wheels it looks like something that could be from the 50s... maybe even from Hill Valley? ;)

"Rare Late 81"?

Wasn't late 1981 when they were cranking them out like there was no tomorrow?

Matt,

they first came to our attention in 2009 when a guy called Chris pasted the infamous "3 D's in a Barn" thread on the old forum. Her sleeping sisters were 10142 (white, in this thread) and 3352 (unpainted) which went to England and got a GTA Alpine turbo engine conversion.

here is 10186 "undercover"
