How do you remove the plate where the shifter boot going into.

DMC calls this the front panel
(My 83 does not have the clock if that matters)

Funny, I did it before and it was a bother. I thought you rotate it up, but I don't remember.

Thanks

Most cars I have seen have two screwholes near the button/armrest area.
If your car has the screw, remove them and then lift that side and pull it towards the rear.
You may have to move the shifter into another position to do that.

+ 1

And there are two vertical pin studs under the front end of he plate, one on each side. these slide into One-way gripping receptacle clips. If you still have them, they can be a little troublesome to let go. A little side to side wiggling should get them to release. The little clips also like to fall out and drop under the metal frame. Be sure to look for that. Don't be surprised if one or both are missing though.

1. Unscrew shifter ball
2. Remove the two screws WelmoedJ was talking about at the base of the metal panel.
3. Gently pivot the panel upward. Look at the top of the metal panel. There is a small lip that tucks into the AC console area.
4. With the panel elevated, disconnect your rheostat (fancy word for dimmer switch. Please remember what order your wires connect), and unplug your clock (if you have one)
5. Once those are disconnected, keep the panel pivoted and pull the top of the panel free. lift over your shifter plate, and you are all set.

To install, reverse.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. I also removed the hvac panel too. I have LEDS for that area and was going to do both fixes.
