During last summer I removed the escutcheon from my drivers door while I was working on the window regulator. I stored it in the trunk “for safe keeping”. I stayed there for a few weeks while I fiddled about inside the door. When I went to reassemble I was surprised to see that it had melted and deformed so much that it would no longer fit.

I got a new one at DMCH last week, seen here in a Before and After pose.

I am surprised that the plastic would melt like this, although more likely it got soft and there was something pressing on it in the trunk. I wonder which thermoplastic it is made of, and how hot it got in that trunk.

So, lesson learned, keep your precious plastic in a controlled environment.

That is most interesting. I notice you said "new one from DMCH". Is it NOS or is it a "New DMCH improved part"? I ask because if that happens while sitting in the trunk what would happen to it if were installed in the cabin on a very hot day?

Edit: I just read that you think something was pressing on it... But I'm still curious as to whether or not it's NOS or just plain new.

Its a New DMCH Improved Part, because they ran out of NOS ones a long time ago, because this kept happening. There is just something peculiar about the original make of this part.

The description reads:

DMC approved replacement or new old stock part - the same part used when servicing/restoring DeLoreans at our facilities so you know it will fit & work! Improved Part

So it is either NOS or Improved part !

The original has T0506 stamped on the back, while the new one has 101889 Left.

Make of that what you will.

The DMCH unit is remade, not really sure how it is improved other than the oem stock was exhausted. How long was it in the bonnet D? I didn't think its been that hot lately.

It was in the trunk all summer, which was outside all summer. I don't know what the temp would get in there. Less than the glassed in cabin, I would think.
