Wow, those windows are great. I'd assume also that they wouldn't go down all the way, but who cares - the bottom of the window is too high to comfortably rest your elbow on while driving, so no need for them to lower all the way. I'm putting copying that design onto my to-do list for my car.
I really like the interior colour too, would love to see some pics of that.

Nothing like a quick mockup - curiosity got the better of me so I went out to the garage and made a cardboard template roughly based on the pic from wil-i-am's car - looks like the window could descend fully! Granted there would be some modifications to be done to the inside of the door, but it is very do-able!

Seems like a cool idea. But don't forget that the doors were designed that way for structural integrity if memory serves. It might work for a time, but in the long run it may not. Just a thought.
dmcjohn
06-18-2012, 09:23 PM
I think Chris Nicholson or Darryn mentioned that before in relation to the pilot 20 car for sale with the sliding window - they said "The sliding windows mean the doors have a little more flex than a regular Delorean but no issue."
2 things come to mind - one being that the door was not made with production presses, and possibly had a slightly different design of inner panels which give it its rigidity. So, maybe the extra flex in these doors was due only in part to the window design - the fact that they were very early doors may have also been a factor.
The other thing that comes to mind is that if the extra flex is 100% due to the different window design, it just means that you should only open the window when the door is closed, and make sure you close it again before opening/closing the door.

I kinda don't like the window very much. That black pillar on the leading edge seems really thick. Looks a bit clumsy to me. But this is probably the smallest problem with the "design" of that car.

Good. That's what happens when the custom car company you hire to work on your car loses your VIN plates and then tries calling a vendor for blanks to stamp out a new one. It is a shame it happened, but I am glad that it did and did not allow the custom shop to get away with something illegal. Also, no offense, but how someone figures they can get away driving a car without a VIN plate, registration, or license plate boggles my mind.

I wonder if the car will still be registered as a DeLorean? From the earlier articles they made it sound like the production version (if it ever happens) will be sold as some kind of kit car. I doubt it's currently meeting emissions regs so that alone is a huge problem.
Ive heard of street racers getting their cars sent to the crusher for racing,... ugly or not, it's still a DeLorean under that mess so I hope the car doesn't meet a similar fate.

Both DMCH and DMC CA got a call the night the car was impounded, it happened at DCS. They asked them for blank VIN plates so they could stamp out new ones. Talking to DMCH and California, this is not the first time they have contacted a DMCH asking for new VIN plates. When they removed the interior they lost the plates. They thought they might have sold it with the interior (to whoever bought it on the forums here), but I guess not, since they still don't have them. The reason the car was never registered is because there are no plates.

Some of us were talking about this at DCS. For the amount of money spent, if they REALLY couldn't find the VIN tags, why not just buy a POS, take the VINS, and then crush it?

On a serious note, for a moment I thought to myself, William could just make his own VIN tags with the millions of dollars he already has to waste. Then I woke up and realized the reality that William probably doesn't even know what his VIN number is/was.

I don't get the hatred of this car, and especially don't get the calls for it to be crushed.
Ok, I don't like the styling of the front of it, but would like to see a better shot of the back of it to see how it looks back there.
I do understand the general feeling towards Will for the way he present the car as his creation and that it is a Chrysler - obviously that's all a bit silly. I've no time for anyone who glosses over work performed by others and tries to claim credit for it.
But that said, there was clearly a lot of work done to the car and whether I like the end result or not, I can appreciate the effort. There are some parts of it that I think are really good, but more details on the build would be great. For example, those full electric windows - that is by far the best custom window solution ever done on a DeLorean. Also, from some pics of the build it looks like there were front suspension modifications done to the car - possibly double wishbone? Again, not enough details out there and I'd like to see more. Thirdly, from the few pics showing bits of the interior, I can imagine the interior is really nice.
There are plenty of examples of custom DeLoreans that no longer look like a regular DeLoreans - how come there are no calls for those to be crushed?

I don't think anyone really wants to see a car crushed. I think the original thought was that William would buy a junk car in order to get some donor VIN tags. William would then trash/crush the donor car since it would no longer have tags.
That was my understanding. No one wants to see a car trashed but being that William is from the ghetto he probably wouldn't care about trashing another car. He just needs what he wants.
Disclaimer: I was going to use different words since I'm poor white trash but I decided not to. I was going to call William black trash, instead of from the ghetto, but that would probably be considered racist and offensive.

I don't want to see the car crushed, as I appreciate the effort, and do like parts of it. Would be interesting to see how it performs.
The part that upsets me is that a company like West Coast Customs would do something like work on a customers car and then return it without VIN tags.

I don't get the hatred of this car, and especially don't get the calls for it to be crushed.
Don Steger and the guys down at DMC-CA got a request for a DeLorean from William, he got a low vin with grey wheels, etc etc. They custom made a gorgeous white and black interior. 1 month later it goes into WCC and is dismantled. WCC makes it look...different...and then gives it to William. The project was called the DeLor-I-Am (get it?). Anywho, I would have been fine with it, as many people know I'm an advocate for doing whatever you want with your car, BUT, then William starts going around saying he's starting a car company called IAmAuto, and this car is his first. He wants to give jobs to the ghetto, etc etc. He said that this car was made out of Chrysler parts by HIS company in the hood where he grew up. IAmAuto doesn't even exist yet. He completely disregards WCC and pretends that he built it himself, he doesn't know anything about cars, and to top it off, he won't admit it's just a tarted up DMC with an engine swap.
TLDR: He took a pre-existing car, stuck some flashies on it, and said it was a new car that he handmade, destroying a rare car in the process.

It's not to everybody's taste (let's face it, it's to no-ones taste) but if it was brought to DCS14 I guarantee that there would be as many people round it as round one of Rich W creations.

After I showed them a picture of that thing, I showed them a picture of a stock DeLorean. Their response was “Uh, that’s kind of ugly, I like the other better.” Say what??? I asked them what was wrong with the stock D’, and they told me that it's “gross and old looking“. It has a weird air scoop bumpy thingy on the hood. Looks cool, but why add on a Delorean? And if this goes like I think it will, it won't even have the normal 6 cylinder engine. They will through in some big V8 and at that point it is no longer a Delorean, just a Delorean wanna be that thought it could "improve" Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

Having lots of money rarely equals lots of brains. I see kids around here driving around nice Hummers, Benz', Bimmers - all wearing the stupid hat with the big bill (and I STILL don't get why they leave the sticker on it), chains, etc. like they're rejects from Jersey Shore... most of the time it's either their parent's money (and I won't go into what kind of parents they are), or they're dealing drugs..or they're Chaldean (lots and lots of those in my area). Then both rules apply.

I actually like that car. Not enough to forgive the Delorean he ruined. I agree with the 1930s feel but there's no way that car cost nearly a million dollars. I've seen guys build things like that in their garage. Unless he's got a LSX and most bulletproof Curry axle in that thing I can't see the car costing more than 100k tops. For .9 million my builder better start with a pile of stainless steel and not an old VW.
Edit: I stand corrected (read the article). With mister Will-I-Am-Wishywashy I can see it costing that much. There was probably a 500k charge just putting up with his mind changes.

There are a ton of questions here to ask. The least of which is if so many poor kids are being helped by projects like this, where is the proof? Will.I.Am will find a camera whenever and whenever possible anytime he wants to create a photo op. So where the hell are the pictures and ultimate proof of kids or even adults that have participated in his programs? Personally, I don't think that any such thing exists. I think this whole thing about helping out "the community" is just a lie that he tells himself and shares with the world to cover up all of his bad decisions.
If Will.I.Am wants to help disadvantages kids from the ghetto get off to a better start in life, perhaps the first lessons should be about finances and saving your money to make it work for you. Not pissing away cash on functionless cars.

Yeah, I did. That's exactly what I'm pointing out, how all of his failed excuses about how his poor decisions and taste are being masqueraded as valiant acts to benefit others.
He doesn't drive bad customs: He drives rolling martyrs.
When Oprah wanted to help disadvantaged girls, she spend money building schools in shitty countries. When Steve Wozniak wants to help kids learn science, he donates cash and buys computers for kids and even hosts awards shows and festivities, and creates companies to further these goals. Bill Gates, Buffett family, the list of Philanthropists goes on and on of what causes people are funding and fueling with their time and money. And some even keep it quiet because they do care about their causes. They donate to benefit people, not to create a publicity stunt to further their own career. But in all situations here, we can still see the tangible results of these efforts. Brick and mortar buildings, programs people can actually sign up for, purchases of materials and goods for the causes. I don't see any of this here at all.
Let's be upfront about this: Will.I.Am is a fraud. He's not helping anyone at all, except for himself. Shit, at least if he were working on DONKs that would be SOMETHING! Those are mostly stock cars that require repairs. Want people to be mechanics? Then why are these programs not cranking out ASE certified technicians. In fact, WTF are they turning out at all? You know what's missing here:
NO 501(c) Registrations.
NO Physical Addresses nor Offices for any Organization.
NO NAME for any organization here.
NO Enrollment information for any of these programs for students.
NO Application information for any of these programs for instructors.
NO community outreach whatsoever.
None of this shit exists because Will.I.Am is lying about it all to cover up his publicity stunts and poor choices in automobiles.
Will.I.Am wants to chop up some more DeLoreans? So?
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3f52aiRIb1qfibpm.jpg
But this lying about wanting to give back to people needs to stop. In the end nothing is going to happen, and he'll just blame it on circumstances that were beyond his control. Just watch. But it's all about covering things up so that he's not such a laughing stock. He can't even be honest about chopping a DeLorean, what makes anyone think that he's gonna tell the truth about anything else?

Brilliantly said. Likewise, if he's not going to own up to it being a DeLorean, well, whatever. But to receive praise for pretending to make this a charitable endeavour, that's despicable. Especially seeing as someone in his position COULD do worlds of good if he wanted to.

No A/C vents anywhere in that dash. Could they all just be hidden underneath?
Someone spent a lot of time on that interior and don't think it looks half bad.

Wow you're right, I didn't realize those were vents. I just saw that the center console was replaced with a giant screen and there were no vent openings leading into the doors.

I wonder if the large roll-down windows had something to do with needing to relocate the latch

Yeah, well... a real shame is that they used such a beautiful car as the DeLorean to create this monstrosity. Ugh... Ugly is an understatement.

I'm gonna join Steve on this one. I don't like it.
I fell in love with an underdog car. I love the idea of engine swaps and powerplant upgrades like everyone else, and THAT has its place. But, this....it's just....it's too different. It's too much of a "total" mod. And this isn't the only DeLorean I feel this way towards - just to clear up any ideas that I only hate it cause it's Who.Is.Will or whatever his name is.
Curtis's car looks like a stock DeLorean compared to this hideous thing.
Who is Curtis and where can I find pics of his car?

If I'm wrong, and this thing is the 2nd coming of DeLorean design, then I'll admit it. It this is another one of those "someone's trying to do something different and it looks like butt" designs, I'll stick to my guns (: ...
I knew my opinion is being recorded, and boy, I want it known on this one =P . I am a firm believer of "ready, aim, fire" with what I say - not "ready, fire, aim".
I'll hush from here. I don't want to say the same thing 25 different ways. My opinion is known - that's that.
ProtoDeLorean did it right. THIS situation is not the case.
What is ProtoDelorean?

yes, it is ugly but they used elements like the proto colors, door latch, and the EV gear selector.
Was almost at a good result if the wood was left out and he 60s corvette curved dash.

Not a fan of Wil I am's endless self promotion and taking credit for his custom car when in reality it was a shop that built it for him. I don't get people like that and he's not the only one out there who acts this way. Nor am I a fan of the look of the outside of the car, although the rear of the car is better than the rest of it.
There is obviously some quality work done on the car by West Coast Customs. The outside of the car looks too "Fast and Furious" to me, but the fit and finish appears to be very good, so whether or not it actually looks good which is subjective, it's obvious that a lot of time was spent on it. The interior looks nice to me - I love the seats and the colour they chose, and that they wrapped the door sill in leather rather than carpet - that looks nice!
I also like that they managed to get a proper full size window in there, and I think there was also some custom chassis work done to swap the front and rear suspensions out for subframes with modern double wishbone suspension (although I've never seen pics of this) and an engine swap also. So, it's not all bad.

Watching "inside west coast customs" on youtube, and they have an overhead shot of the shop. Is that Will.I.am's DeLorean down there?

Love the flared arches.
But the front, rear quarter window and rear end just looks like it came from a cheap kit car from Asia somewhere.

Once more I raise this thread from the dead.
Video tour of a bit the car, complete with explanation that they jettisoned the heavy SS body and go cart engine and replaced it with aluminum and a supercharged corvette engine. Mind you they didn't show the engine bay, nor have I ever seen a picture of it, so who knows whats really in there.
No mention of a Chrysler drivetrain at all. No mention of IamAuto. Perhaps Mr. Iam was mistaken.

I wonder how much lighter the car is with aluminum panels vs. the SS. If the aluminum is thick enough to keep from getting easily dented, then it might weigh about the same I would think. I know Ford's new F150 is all aluminum, but they had to have special panels made of the same thickness (or moreso) than the standard steel panels, which did lighten the truck a lot. I could see if they used aircraft aluminum it would be lighter and strong.
Notice how he says the car was ALL stainless steel? I'm so tired of people coming up saying the same thing and the car is SO heavy.. yet I will be diligent till death to make sure they know the truth.

Off topic: I love how "2 Chainz" is so committed to his "look" that he refuses to ditch the sunglasses even indoors, and he refuses to ditch his cigarette even when he can't have it lit inside.

Mr. Chainz is a rapper and producer (ahem, excuse me, "hip hop artist") who got jailed for cocaine possession at the age of 15 and evidently has been in the business ever since.
He seems nicer than Kanye.

the front suspension is a 4 inch stretched mustang 4, the oem front frame was cut at the firewall and custom built forward
the rear suspension is all custom made
huge wildwood brakes
the metal is aircraft aluminum with aluminum braces that are riveted and tig welded and hand formed this is also the skeleton of the interior
the engine was an Audi R8 that sits further back than the prv
please refer to post #2
paddle shift on steering wheel
Cadillac truck mechanism on the doors to auto close
the doors structure had to stay the same they are just widened
I have some pictures somewhere
the idiots took off the door vin when the tub was modified so it only has the dash tag that they had to call me about cause they left it on the dash when they sold it to me

It works better this way. That unlikable West Coast douche always annoyed me with how awesome he thinks he is.
