Does anyone besides me hate seeing the rust everywhere? I don't know if it's the humidity here or what. It seems I'm constantly fighting rusting parts. Does anyone else share my frustration?

Come up north - I'll show you some rusty cars. You southerners have no idea. . .

LOL. I know there's at least one owner on here who lives in Buffalo where I grew up. Brave soul who I hope never takes his D out in the winter. Try living somewhere that people own their own rock salt dispensers and see how long the cars last. We used to call the giant holes that would show up in the body panels "auxiliary ventilation ducts" When I met her, my wife had a Cavalier that had no floor. Her dad just put down some Berber carpet scraps over it. Made it easier to lift up and let out the water that came in through the also rusted out roof and doors. :)

Rust...I know about rust. I could tell you stories about rust. Meet the Rustang. She spent nearly 30 years up north and then 5 in a swamp in Mississippi. Even for a parts car this thing is rough.

I tackled rust on my frame last winter. It was originally a california car that spent about four years in Connecticut after that, just enough time to get some frame rust, which I corrected -

It looks beautiful to me. Is it for sale? I noticed it has a 600 on the windshield.

I bought it a couple of years ago for that. The fenders can be salvaged, the hood is toast but the roof isn't too bad. There are no floors, the front clip is swiss cheese, it is only an I6, and the rear frames are mostly gone.

I can't imagine what these are like now. I bought a '65 in 1972 (i.e. 7 years old) and it already had holes in the floor. Funny thing (now) is that I paid $250 for it, and it was a running driving 289 V8 manual. I sold it a year later, still for $250. After painting it in a friend's front yard.

Shoot, for that kind of price I'd slap some bondo on it, paint it with rustoleum and be in heaven.

That was part of the starving college student $75 paint job.

My blue 66 Stang is in decent shape, I have some rust under the cowl which is causing some leaking. Other than that, a few pinholes in the door, and an area the previous owner just bondoed over instead of fixing she's not too bad. I could take her down for a few months and have a rust free car. I just can't go that long without driving her.

I actually have repeatedly had the idea to restore old Rustang up there. Everything on this car is out there in the aftermarket. There's not a single piece of sheetmetal not being restamped all the way up to brand new bodies. I really want to dump the Ford 390 from my old truck into her and watch her break 9 inch rear axles ;)

One of the really different things with an old, neglected Delorean is how amazing they look even if left outside. Typically on an old, neglected, used car, the paint job shows it's age (oxidized), there are "ventilation holes" and rust all over. On a Delorean the S/S is still shiny and no rust. At least till you look at the frame! Very deceptive to unwary buyers. The epoxy did it's job but nothing lasts forever. Not even galvanizing.

it's always bad when you end up having to shovel the remaining steel out of your car...

Let me guess. You found your car in a swamp:goatee:

errr, no. I found it on the Florida coast. about 100 yards from the sea.

I'll tell you how bad the air must have been: the stainless started to corrode.

pretty bad. I had it restored by DMC Europe. The car is in way better condition now than it was, I'm just trying to get the thing completed.

sorry to hijack :)
