Just doing shift bushings, and noticed that the PO cut and taped this wire (looks green/purple/black)
Anyone know what its for?
I noticed an empty prong on the dimming switch...is it supposed to go there?

thanks
John

LightGreen-White, Purple, Black go to the clock...but along with a Red-Orange.

The three also go to a stock radio...?

That's the wire for the shift position light in an automatic. And that prong is blank on my dimmer as well.

A stock radio has a different connector (white, square 9 pin) and it's wiring is residing behind the radio/AC panel.

A stock radio has a different connector (white, square 9 pin) and it's wiring is residing behind the radio/AC panel.I don't understand...he don't have a connector (PO cut and taped the harness off)???

On my crappy monitor, the far left connector appears to have Red, LtGreen, and LtBlue (which I assume is actually Purple) wires. I can see a Black wire (hidden at the connector?) running with them further up, so I assume that connector is for the clock. The auto shifter lamp doesn't use the purple (hot all times) wire, but does use the other two. I don't remember where all the radio wires run, but since it is the only other thing in the area that needs constant power and this is a manual, I'd guess a PO found/ran another source for it and taped all the extras together just to keep them out of the way...?
If everything was working, I'd forget about it.

As many of us already reported the wire looms are for both manual and automatic cars.
Wires/connectors not needed are just hanging around.
So don't focus on what's not needed, focus on what your car needs.

The round connector (4 wires) is clock only so there's no need to check that, if it's connected to its counterpart.

If you don't know the wire positions and collours of the radio connector, there ought to be a diagram for that specific part in the diagrams section of this forum.
Can't find it? PM me and I'll send a copy of it.

Thanks for the replies,
everything works so I guess it is no big deal....just thought I was missing something

I am however missing the wires that go to the front left speaker....no chance this is somehow related is there??

We need to know the exact colors (including stripes) there and which radio you have to answer that.
Here is the pinout for the Craig/ASI.
