Finally, a sign that can fit in anyone's home developed by DMC Midwest for DeLorean Motor Company!

Based on the original Dealer Sign, this home version is only 69"x18"x3". The outer frame is black anodized aluminum and the face is translucent with vinyl graphics internally lit using LEDs for low power consumption and low heat. Only 3" thick, the sign is powered by a 12V wall converter with the wire coming from the back which allows for mounting options to meet your need.

Sign sells for $925USD and ships via FedEx for under $60 to most US locations. International shipping available on request. Expertly packed with special attention to face and corners. AVAILABLE FROM DMC MIDWEST NOW! Soon to be in the delorean.com online store. Call DMC Midwest for more details 815-459-6439.

Yeah, this was kind of my whole thing too. It's a freaking awesome sign and I'd love to have it hanging in the garage where I keep the DeLorean, but $1k is a lot of dough to spend on a garage nicety.

I even have the perfect spot for it, too. :(

I always though this would be a good idea, ever since the small group in the UK had a similar size custom sign made. Their was a thread on the old .com with photos.

If it weren't for some actual car repairs I have do this spring that will blow my car fund budget this year, one of these would be on my short list.

Those new signs look great - I love how slim they are and that they use LED's.

I think you're probably thinking of the ones which were made up in Ireland:

Also, I had one made up years ago by a sign shop in Ireland - they just gave me the perspex front and my brother made the enclosure for it - total cost was only around $150 and it is 5 feet wide - here's some pics of it on the wall of my garage:

Hmmm ... It doesn look nice but $1000 is pretty steep.

I wonder what it would cost to fabricate with a local sign company... Then of course there's the question of the legality of using the logo for "personal memorabilia."

Might have to investigate.

For those who may be interested, I've spoken with Julee about a reduction in price for these signs if enough orders could be generated. I am currently waiting for her to get back to me with some figures. I've asked for the pricing of an order of 3, 5, and 10. Also, I've asked for pics of the sign illuminated using the backlit LED's so we can get an idea what it would look like in a garage or rec room.

Hopefully, the "volume discount" principle can be attractive enough to those who want to compliment their obsession with such an accessory.

As soon as she gets back to me, I'll pass it along.

Cheers.

Hey all,
Julee has arranged for a discounted rate for these signs from their vendor. Here is the email response regarding the details I received from her this morning.

"It looks like we will be able to do a two week special from 5-14-12 until
the end of the day, 5-25-12. We will offer a minimum sign purchase of 5
signs at $825.00 each plus shipping. People must contact me directly to
order with credit card and shipping information. Credit cards will be
charged at time of order due to the fact that this is a custom build. We
will place this bulk order on the May 29th. If we are unable to get the
minimum order, we will not be able to hold the $825.00 price. Shipping
would probably be within a couple of weeks after we submit the bulk order."

In addition to contacting Julee for your order, I would ask for anyone placing an order with her to also make a post to this thread. This will help to track the
success and keep the thread fresh to generate interest among the forum members.

I am in the finishing stages of my wife's birthday present, (Ohh I will definitely show it off here) and then I have to finish my Millennium Falcon model. By mid September I will start building my own sign. After my research, I can't believe how simple these are going to be to make. The only hard part is building the frame. I am still looking for a frame that is pre constructed from metal but it looks like I will have to make my own at this point. The good news is that it will have user programmable/selectable colors to choose from, not just white.

So how's it going? Start yet?

So odd that you asked, now that the falcon is finished I am going ahead with this project. I actually finished my falcon a bit late to make an illuminated art piece for my wife, took longer than expected, but I learned a lot about the lights which will help me on my sign.

I was just at Walmart looking at poster frames yesterday. I found the right size but nowhere near deep enough. I didn't want to have to build my own frame because I would have to do it with wood, and its hard to get a modern finish from wood. I am going to search online later today for the right size frame. I need to find something approx. 4' x 1.5' that's about 4" deep. Once that is done the rest is gravy. My best bet to find something pre made is a shadow box, but that's a odd size for something not custom, and I am setting a budget at 200.00, maybe 250.00 tops for this entire thing.

Here is what gave me such a fit with lights, it would seem that when you use long runs of lights, the power source has to be divided and modulated carefully. I used two different runs to allow complete user selectable colors and brightness levels. This way it matches any room or season, for instance I can make them red and green for a upcoming Christmas party. Anyway, I am going to do the same thing with the DMC sign, instead of just one color, why not give myself a choice? I may document the construction process and if I do I will start a thread here in the near future.

I think Dave said they are no longer making them but I did finish mine several years ago. Still going strong. Complete instructions here:

http://dmctoday.com/showthread.php?1194-Make-a-Scaled-down-Dealership-sign-for-200-bucks&highlight=Dealership+sign

I strayed away from 100% scale since I split my design 50/50 rather than 60/40 and I didn't use a stainless background but others have built their signs 100% to the original.

Thanks! Here are a couple photos from right after I built it. I hung it on my garage wall and plugged it into a motion activated switch, so whenever I enter the garage it turns on. The vinyl used contains aluminum so it is a real metallic look. It is 1/3 scale (about 4 feet wide) and the frame is less than 2" thick which is perfect for easy hanging.

Another great thing about these smaller signs is they fit in the trunk and when you consider they are 12v DC ready, you can have an awesome display sign at your next night cruise in. I use a jumper box which doubles as a sign rest giving me a wireless display sign on the fly.

DMCH has never been very supportive of individuals selling merch with their logo on it without a contract in place. I don't think something like this could be built and sold by an enthusiast without risking a lawsuit. Even if they didn't care, the time this took would price it beyond what most would want to pay for a replica.

I think Michael's approach on the ratio adjustment is spot on. I am spinning up a 12x48 demo for a thin low power glow backlight technique that I expect will lead to a pretty decent contract. Normally I'd do some variation of my brand for such a thing but I saw this thread the day I was reviewing the display specs for this new demo piece and thought "why not build it with some style".

Anyway, while I wait on the real material to show up I tossed some aluminum stock from another gig on the cnc with a marker to get a sense of the real world display characteristics.

I figure even if I don't land this one, I'll still have an interesting novelty for my shop.

Wow, might be worth using the original vector and doing a 136" version on some aluminum sheet. I've been tinkering with the geometry this past week for the presentation one I'm doing. The optima and irisupc fonts are close but needed tuning. Still isn't quite where I want it so I haven't begun cutting any vinyl for the acrylic sheet but it is getting closer I think:

The one I uploaded is A: Not the correct ratio and B: not vectored. So the print shop will have to size it to whatever size you want. The one another member uploaded is the right ratio and dimensions but I don't know if it's vectored or actual size. As long as it is in vector format, the print shop will have no problem making it whatever size is needed.
