Location, location, location...

Just a suggestion for the community. If everyone would go into their profiles and add a general location for themselves, we might get more owners offering to help one another in person. I know when I see a "my car won't start" thread, my first reaction is just how much easier it would be to help if I could eyeball it myself....but not if they are in Maine!

Some people may wish to stay incognito and not share any information like that, but really, what's the harm if it is kept general? I'm in Houston.

Some folks may not be familiar with how to do all the stuff in the left column. Which is not to say they could not put it in the the "Signature" with a little basic info of the car. Perhaps it should be "stressed or encouraged" to supply some of this info within the Registration process as part of the WELCOME message.

It would not be funny if that new guy was just down the street from another owner. I definitely like to see at least the location but some put just the city name and expect us to know what state they are in.

Anyway over here we consider 20 miles a decent distance (about half an hour's drive).
In your countries (the "Americas") I found doubling that time is a normal distance away.

However it's a perfect idea to include one's city/state to decide if help or assistance could be near.

I live about 20 miles from any place that has a name and there are 3 of them. If I just pick one, one person could think I'm 20 miles closer while another 40 further away, and v/v (and that is as a crow flies).

Seems it makes more sense for a person who needs help to say where they live and ask for it anyway, IMHO...

I consider a 10 hour drive to be relatively close.

On another note, why don't people include their real name in their signature? I want to at least be able to associate a name with the person I am talking to.

I don't want to meet someone and say, "Hi, I'm Stevedmc, you must be I love BTTF".

That just seems too silly to me.

There should be an ODOC drive event up in the Muskokas for the day/weekend, or something. At least it would be closer to where you are, plus there'd be some nice scenery.
