So I'm at work going through my daily job tasks. I had some question regarding a financial statement for a dealership located in KS. I called Ralph Baird Motors, Inc. and spoke with the general manager. We were talking about cars and he mentions that they recently sold a Delorean.

Of all cars for him to mention! At first I thought one of my coworkers was playing a joke on me until he said they sent the car Vin #10922 with only 810 miles on it to TX for them to restore.

Resoration was around $20,000.

A memeber of the San Antonio Spurs bought the car for $47,000. Sure enough it's listed on the delorean.com web-site as a recently sold car.

What a coincidence

I think the moral of the story is that a brand new DeLorean left to sit for 30 years needed $20,000 of work.

From my understanding the car was stored indoors for all those years.

With that said, do you sell it as is for $20,000 on your own or send it to Houston, spend $20,000 on the restoration, sell it for $47,000 minus commission, transportation and other fees and come out about the same.

I can only assume that was only mechanicals needed as well. Cosmetics *should* have been excellent, and thus very little of that $20,000 tab spent in regards to the appearance of the car.

I can't say I am really that surprised. I have learned some mighty strange things can happen to low mileage cars that are brought out of long term storage. At the same time, these cars can run surprising well with near catastrophic issues being present.
