Leather from cows it is from Bridge of Weir. Tim Connolly didn't like the financial exposure of the DeLorean programme. And probably right

Bridge of Weir is the same make as the leather in Saab 900's from the start, till about 1987 when they switched to Elmo leather. Coincidentally, the elmo leather holds up much better than the older Bridge of Weir leather. In either case, frequent conditioning and lack of direct sunlight is required in order for the leather to hold up long term.

In Saabs as well as the DeLorean, only the direct contact areas are actually leather. The side pieces and back are a close approximation of leather, in vinyl

Yeah, "leather seating surfaces" only. Oh well, I guess it makes it easier to maintain. I went through way too much time and leather cleaner on my Jag.

I know an Original owner who kept sheep skin covers in the seats for 29 years. (very comfortable). When he finally removed them last year the seats looked like BRAND NEW condition. I was amazed how soft they were.

Rich, Corinthian Leather!

Okay Ricardo Montalban. This is not some Chrysler product were talking about here this is a DELOREAN. Some one should have made a commercial that shows John DeLorean gently petting the interior describing the soft Bridge of Weir leather. LOL! Naw doesn’t sound as luxurious as soft Corinthian leather.

Are the new DMC seat covers the same kind of leather? If not, what do they use?

They would be made by the original manufacturer, as they are still in business. These days, Likely the leather is made by whom ever makes the office chairs at staples.

Original Bridge of Weir leather. NO

DMCH uses a generic upholstery leather.

I remember some years back Johnny Carson was interviewing Ricardo and he asked him what Corithian meant. His answer, absolutely nothing it was just a term the marketing department came up with that sounded good, exotic and rolled off the tongue.

I'd much rather have Bridge of Weir than Corinthian of Newark. Just sayin'.

Just so we are clear, the leather is only on the "seating surfaces". Not the sides or back, they are vinyl. The other leather is the shifter boot on the 5-speeds, the door pull straps, and the steering wheel. It is good leather so take care of it. Go to Leatherique.com for products to take care of fine leather. It's the stuff they use on R/R, Jaquar, and other top brands. IMHO much better than Lexol or any of the other stuff.

I was kinda disappointed with leatherique, but in it's defense, my leather was probably too far gone. In hindsight the $80+ CAN should have gone towards new seat skins.

Word to the wise - if you're leather is dry, tight and on the verge of cracking, this will clean it up nicely just in time for those cracks to become big tears.
