There are plenty of videos on youtube showing the sound of available exhausts for our Deloreans, but very few are back to back comparisons done under the same conditions.
This bothered me, because we all know things don't sound the same on tape as they do in real life (think of your own voice, for example). I would hear a stock exhaust idling outside then a DPI or DMC in a garage, or from inside the car. Hard to compare the two when they are samples taken under different conditions.

So I took a video of my stock exhaust, and then after installing DPI's Spec I Cat-less exhaust, took another. The car is in the same condition in both videos - backed into a two car garage, on jacks, with the garage door fully open. The video was taken with an iphone 4.

If your stock exhaust doesn't sound like mine did on video, then don't expect a DPI to sound like mine does on video. But it should help put the two in context.

I think the DPI Spec I Cat-less exhaust sounds GREAT. The stock setup sounded like an angry sewing machine. I am satisfied.

thank you for doing this, ive always wished there were comparison videos as well, especially since ive never really heard a DeLorean 'in real life.'

Here's a pair of videos of my car. One is with just an EFI upgrade, but everything else stock. The second one is with ported heads, aggressive cams, and the spec 1 exhaust.

Car is in the same garage in both videos.

Here's a pair of videos of my car...

nice, i saw the second video on your other thread, but now with the comparison, the DPI exhaust sounds even more impressive. :headbang:

were your two videos were filmed with the same camera?

Pretty sure this is the first time I have heard a sample of the test pipe version of the DPI SPEC I exhaust. Very nice. Can't wait to see how mine turns out.

I saw the one you sent to my phone, Josh. Hard to believe that is my car, it is so beautiful! Never did get all the tear down pics from the alternate email I gave to you. Just got 4 to the work email. Need me to send the alternate email again?

Please send an email from that address to [email protected] I will also provide you with a Delorean hotwheels jump drive with all of the before and after pictures as well.

Simply amazing pics there!

BTW, your spelling of the email above is slightly off, it kicked my email back. Just tried sending again and should be good now.

Wen;t for a pretty good drive today, the unofficial seat-of-my-pants dyno says the DPI Spec 1 exhaust gives considerable power gains. Granted, it's been a while since I've driven it until now, but it really feels significantly faster to accelerate. And the sound, my goodness. Performance brakes were on my list of things to do, but they have rocketed to the top of the list after today.

I wanted to add more videos of my exhaust to help people with sound comparisons.
IMO, having the same exhaust recorded before and after under the same environmental/recording conditions is a much better to show the difference than different exhausts under different conditions. This way, if your stock exhaust sounds different than mine, you at least have a baseline and can adjust your expectations when listening to the changed exhaust.

Again, first we have the stock exhaust, with the car backed into the garage.

Second, the DPI cat-less exhaust, again, with the car backed into the garage.

Since those videos were about 2 years ago, I was unable to exactly replicate the conditions before recording the exhaust with cats.
So to set a new baseline, compare the differences between the cat-less exhaust backed into the garage, and the cat-less exhaust outside (different camera and outside)

And the last video, under the same conditions as the third, is the DPI exhaust with catalytic converters.

I prefer the sound of DPI Spec I test pipes personally, got two that way (for now anyway). I guess you purchased both cats and test pipes and just swap them out?
