I am thinking about painting my rims. They are kind of dark, dirty, and chipped. Has anyone here repainted theirs? If so what kind of paint and color did you use? I think I would prefer the lighter cleaner color

Powdercoating is your best option for both looks and longevity.

If you really have dark rims, see if someone will swap you their silver ones :) The dark ones are hard to come by and a lot of people like them better.

I had mine repaired and powder-coated. Came out very nice. Helps the look a lot.

Took me longer to search than I expected on the subject of refinishing your DeLorean rims.
Anyway here is what I found already posted.

Just paint them (brushed enamel, not sprayed). You can do that with the tires still on. Takes about a week to exhaust an entire quart. Costs less than $10.

I was thinking about doing mine in black at one time. I did my Mazda's wheels with black Plasti-Dip in December. Turned out great, and completely reversible if you want to go back to stock!

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but here is my question anyway. My car has three dark gray rims and one silver rim. I want to get the silver rim painted to make them all match. Did different years have different colours? My car is an 83.

Yes, there were dark and light (early/late), and, thick and thin as well (check out pics in this thread (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5418-Wanted-(Buy-or-Trade)-Front-Rim-Wheel-Thick-Style-Casting))

Anyone have a ballpark idea what the cost is to get all 4 wheels powder coated?

From what I've been quoted, about $70-$100/wheel for blasting and coating.

Thats not to bad really. I have no experience with powder coating, I assume they can try to match the coating to the OE color?

Get all 4 done at the same time. They will NEVER match one wheel to the other 3. The OE silver is a very wierd color, and in 30 years it has faded/browned.

If you really want to be different paint one side of the spoke red and the other side blue. The colors flip over as the car goes by. There are 360 spoke sides, so it takes a while.

Nah, that's been done. Do something new and original
