New DMCH Water Pump missing sealing bolt....

Well, my new water pump from DMCH is missing that brass plug bolt on the front under the thermostat so I have a huge hole that I cannot plug and they don't offer that bolt separately and it's the weekend and they aren't open. So now I can't install my water pump and my weekend plans for the car are shot.

You need to swap the old one over from your original unit. We have the plugs here new but there isn't much we can do for you on a Saturday....

As far as I am aware, every pump comes like that and you need to swap it over.

Ours come with a new plug. (available next door from Summit Racing) As Mike stated though most vendors require you to swap this over. Have you already sent the pump in for the core?

Yup, you need to swap it with your old one. IIRC, same with the back plate.

No, I already sent the core back. Dammit. Its not like DMCH gives you ANY instructions on what is provided vs. Swapped.

My water pump came from Hervey and I didn't have to swap anything. All I really had to do is cuss and yell at K-Jet because it had to be removed/replaced to swap the water pump.

A very good idea. I got a pump returned with the whole back still on it once. Now there was an unhappy guy.

Funny thing is that most people seem to take months to return cores, something I just don't understand either considering the money involved on some of them.

Most auto parts don't come with car-specific instructions. Generally they say something like "transfer all parts to the new unit using new gaskets and appropriate sealer, torque botls to manuafacturer's specifications" or something equally obvious.

Come to think of it, I did have to swap the thermostat with cover, the switch, and the pump back. But whatever this sealing bolt is he talks of, I don't remember it. There were several bolts holding the back on the pump, but nothing special.

Doesn't really need instructions. It's pretty simple to take a look at the old & new parts side by side to compare before before installing.

Don't blame DMCH for your oversight.

Ditto, I wait until I have the new unit installed & everything is working. Best be sure before you make a simple, but costly (or time consuming) mistake.

No, its a big bolt/screw that's beneath and to the right of the bleed screw.

Not the bleed screw. The seal bolt. Wouldn't have mattered anyway. That seal bolt on my pump was rusted solid.

Gotcha. I just checked and I have a spare water pump with that bolt. Rundmc can have it the bolt for free if he wants to come to my house today to pick it up. After today the free offer is no longer valid.

i happened to buy a waterpump kit from hervey as well, and had to swap that plug out.

Sometimes you buy things preparing for a project and life pushes your project out a few months. I've had that happen before but not on my Delorean project.

Did you opt to buy all of the extra's? He doesn't hand out pump backs/hardware etc. We recently sourced the m7 1.0 hex heads for the back of the pump (M7 x 30 Socket Capscrew DIN 912) but they are pricey (2.50 a piece) and good used ones are becoming hard to come by.

Nonsense. They are used to hold Vespa seats in place. I buy them for about 80 cents apiece. These are proper M7x1.00 socket heads BTW, not hex heads.

I just gave Louis Duet a complete set, free of of charge.

I don't know what I bought. I probably swapped more stuff that I remember.

What I do know is changing out the waterpump wasn't rocket science. Removing/reinstalling K-Jet was rocket science.

The bung is the same as the larger of the two types of blanking plugs on the engine - the ones with the (afaicr) 10mm allen socket. It's also the same as a generic lambda sensor plug. Can't remember the thread off the top of my head

I am happy to let you all now we have the new waterpump backs new made. Same for the thermostat cover. New bleeding screws and the m7 hex head screws, will show up on the website next week.
