I believe this is one on the Universal backlot in Hollywood.

I'm soo happy that I am ready to cry!

I can hear V.B. frantically dialing up trying to get in on the lime light and publicity(not knocking it, if I were in his shoes I would be doing the same thing).

PS..I thought V.B. was Bob's "go to" guy in the first place, that article doesn't mention him.

Videobob is Kevin Pikes go to guy. I don't know about Bob Gale. But I am seriously disappointed to see that Videobob doesn't have a hand in this with all the others.

ahhhh, I'm not up on the BTTF hierarchy, which is probably why I have never heard of the names of the builders mentioned in the article.

It seems to me that VB has so much enthusiasm and passion for the replicas that it wouldn't really be a BTTF car without his help.

The BTTF replica builder group is like a "fight club" so in a way it doesn't surprise me that Videobob wasn't included. Then again as mentioned Videobob seems to be one of the major players. I guess not this time.

That is excellent news. The fate of that poor car has bothered me ever since I learned she was rotting away outside on the Universal backlot. She's as much of a piece of automotive history as the first Shelby.

I'm happy to say that I've got a hand in this project. For anyone that doesn't know who Joe Walser and Terry Matalas are they are the current project leaders heading up the restoration for our group, Temporal FX (previously known by some as Fight Club). J Ryan, founder of the offto55 site is also one of the three project leads.

The car is receiving a museum quality restoration and will be well protected once complete.

If you haven't clicked the link above by the original poster please do so and read the message from Bob Gale! We are reaching out to everyone in the DeLorean and BTTF community that may have leads on tracking down original parts from any screen used car that have been taken over the years. If you know of anyone who has screen used time machine parts Bob Gale is looking to get these back so the car can be brought BACK to it's original condition as it appeared in 1985.

Please contact us on our facebook page here:
http://www.facebook.com/timemachinerestoration

or email us at [email protected]

We are also interested in any photos people may have of visits to the car when it was on display at Universal Studios from 1985-1993.

Thanks!

Thank you to my supporters!
I was one of the first to know about this before it was press released and Joe and Terry gave me a courtesy call to let me know about it.
This is something we as fans and builders have talked about and fantasized about for many years and it is finally happening.
They couldn't have picked a better crew, these guys not only live minutes away from Universal but have researched the parts and placements beyond anyone else.
Although I believe I am also capable of doing the restoration they are best suited for it because of their location, expertise, relationships, etc.
I was contacted by both Kevin Pike and Bob Gale today and talked about the press release and how important it is to gain support.
So make sure to LIKE the https://www.facebook.com/timemachinerestoration page and follow it.
If you have something they can use let them know.

I have let everyone know that I am available to help as well as provide parts
as it would be my honor and privilege.
Despite past disagreements one thing we as fans all agree on is that this car
deserves the best restoration and treatment it deserves as Hollywood royalty
and the star of one of the greatest films of all time and the most iconic movie car
of all time.

Bob Gale WILL be in Orlando at the DCS this year as will I and the restoration team
so if you haven't booked it yet you SHOULD!

I have been working on a lot of Ghostbuster's parts as well as getting prepared for
building my 10th Delorean Time Machine!!!
My Television show is getting ready to kick off soon and I will let everyone know
when that happens.

Again,
Thanks!!!

Well said Bob. Past differences aside, this is a chance for ALL enthusiasts to bring bring whatever they can to the table to make the restoration the best it can possibly be.

This is so cool! I assume when this is done, it will be the car by which all other cars are judged against. Even though it was used in all 3 films, this is going to be a Mr. Fusion-free car right? I figure so since thats how it looks now. I cannot WAIT to see when this guy is done. Going to be one hell of a restoration.

I will admit that I know little to nothing about this car's history since the movies were completed, but what happened to all of the original parts that were on the car? Were they removed piece by piece for some reason?

I'd like to learn more about this car. Is there a history page about this car somewhere out there?

After the filming of Part I the A car was on display at universal studios near the tram tour que line. Fans were free to get up close and personal with the car and so a few parts went missing prior to filming of parts 2 and 3. The flux bands and original neon were also removed during this time (supposidly due to reports of people getting shocked by the car) and then later the flux bands were replaced.

The B car (which later got demolished by the train at the end of part 3) was put into storage during this time and was mainly pristine when pulled back out for filming the sequels.

After filming of parts 2 and 3 the B car wreckage made its way onto various replica cars build by Jay Ohrberg. Some parts were also taken as souviniers by cast and crew.

Jay Ohrberg also had posession of the A car to use for reference while building the other replicas and he gave the A car a mild refresh so it could go back on the universal lot for display. It sat on the lot for years and parts slowly found their way into the hands of fans and other people who worked at universal studios.

In 1993 one particular worker at the park was able to sucessfully remove a large number of original parts from the car. Parts were taken and replaced with replicated versions instead of the 'refurbished' originals going back on the car. The internal components of the flux capacitor, the digital speedometer, wormhole emitter, Mr. Fusion, and a few others were taken. We're working with Bob Gale to get this laundry list of parts back on the car where they rightfully belong.

There is more information on the history of the other screen used car at the facebook page linked above. If you want to know even more then you can join the Temporal FX forum at tfxforum.com for more in depth history.

I posted this picture on the old .com site. It was taken in March or April of 86. I'm in the dark shirt seeing a D for the first time! You can see the flux bands have been removed by this time.

Yeah, I was in LA. Thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering. BTW, the simpsons ride is great. Still a little upset I never got to go on the bttf ride though.

I always thought that was the A car.

I went there about a year ago and it had a grill. I wonder what happened to it.

The BTTF ride is still running in Japan. You could still experience it.

Another reason to travel to Japan!

Another thing that irked me was that they completely changed the look of the hill valley town square. And for what you might ask? The ghost whisperer. I was appalled.
