opinions. if it's knackered then I'll swap it for a Volvo block over here. no great shakes. just wanted peoples opinions. Car hasn't run in ~10 years. engine currently out of car whilst resto is being done.

It looks rough but does it leak? I've seen rotted blocks that push oil up into the VOD. If you have this here then it's probably toast. They can be repaired but if your doing a resto I'd locate another engine first or maybe just a short block. If you can try washing it with aluminum cleaner (acid) and see what your up against first before putting any money into this motor.

Just my 2 cents.

I would pull everything out of the valley and clean it extensively. If it is that bad up top I would definitely want to see what is going on down in the main journal castings.

Cant make everyone happy. If we require the items you suggest upon registration folks put things like "Anywhere" as their location and still make up some creative "full names"

my complaint really stems from not being to help owners effectively. As other vendors have even posted how are we to help owners that purchase our parts with problems etc when they post on here under an alias with no location. I know there really isn't an answer for this. It's just frustrating and time consuming trying to figure out where someone is from and who they are.

We suggested a while back that people use their real names, but I'd get pm's with name change requests like from 'knobjobber' to 'slobknobber'. Yeah, that helps...

Then we'd ask for actual geographic closeness... we'd get 'Over the rainbow...' Fucking munchkins...

You are forgetting the typical owner is white, male, nerdy, and has experience in the IT field.

They do stupid stuff like this because they are nerds. Most nerds also prefer electronic communication instead of picking up the phone to make a simple phone call.

This is why when the .org site came around I changed my screen name to just my name. 1: I have nothing to hide. 2: It definitely makes communicating with people off of dmctalk in places like facebook or via email a LOT easier since they already know my name. 3: There are so many times where this community meets in person that it's way easier to just introduce myself and say yep, thats me on the forum as well.

I'm not saying usernames should be real names or anything like that, but it's nice if in those cases (like mine) real names appear at the bottom. Easy as pie and doesn't force the moderators to do all the changes. Just a thought.

Back on topic: Im hoping once you get all the crud cleared off, you find the block in satisfactory condition. That's the tough thing about those sitting cars. You just never know.

The aluminum of the engine it self is real pure, and is a simple on to weld.
Clean it real good, and let a good welder do the job, ik we do all the time.
A 3 mm plate is made to fit the hole, first plate cover the bad site. The next one the complete top. ready for the next 30 years.
