Front Brake reassembly question...where does this part go?

I've finished disassembling and cleaning and painting (gasp:shameful:) my front brake calipers, and am reassembling. With the rebuild kit came a metal paper clip looking thing, which my car did not have (brake bullentin?). (My car has 12888 miles on it, prolly first time these were ever off)

I've figured out only two possible ways it could go, (I think). I'm guessing this is an anti-vibration clip? I'm thinking it fits best in this pic here:

Its been a while since I last messed with brakes but itsn't that pin part of what holds the brake pads in place?

the kit came with 2 pins to slide through the calipers and pads and new clips for the pins, but it also came with a bent up looking thing (see top of pad in pic) that I didn't have originally...not sure where it goes..
There is one for each pad...

I think you're talking about the anti rattle clips that come with the hardware kit? Maybe Dave S will chime in here to tell you or show you a picture of how they get installed (and then I'll know too for my clips!)

I think that's what they are for. I found some pics of brake calipers reassembled/on cars//etc. Looks like there are springs on the pins between the brake pads, I assume to help push the pistons back in during normal operation. I do not have those springs, anybody know if these were a retrofit? Since I won't be able to get them before tomorrow (when I plan on putting the calipers back on in anticipation of my first drive ! ) they look easy enough to put on after the brakes are back on the car.

..I'm sure I'll be retracting that statement at a later date! :hihi2:

And I believe the anti rattle clips are only intended for the front brakes and not the rears.

1 - they are only on the front. No idea why, the rears can rattle too!
2 - they come with the rebuild hardware kit but were not generally included from the factory, so you can live without them;
3 - they keep the pads from rattling against the pins. Most people wouldn't notice that they are missing, unless you drive with the door open and the radio off;
4 - there are two kinds - the clips you show, and some with springs on the pins. They do the same thing;
5 - Very easy to install later.
