Was that winter ???

only 1 day of a light frost locally. A far cry from last years Snowmageddon.

Must have been the mildest winter since I have lived in the south.

I think it was. While it is suppose to get down to the 50's again this weekend I think we'ved passed winter and went straight into tornado. I'll give you two guess how I think you and I should celebrate it ;-).

Same deal up north in Canada too. And I'm not complaining mind you... I think I've only cleared the snow like about twice all season. Last year on the other hand... well... see for yourself. Let's just say I could have had the local kids over and run a ski hill on my front lawn.

Just some rain here. Must have been slightly to the north of us. Mind you, we might be sleeping in the basement tonight looking at all the activity in AL atm .

Definitely into tornado season now.

I was in the workshop tonight, and around 10:00, there was a faint strange noise, and since I had some music playing, I subconsciously thought it was part of it. My wife came down and asked me if I could hear the "tornado siren."

Waaaaaaaaa??? Tornado siren?? They have those??

So I muted the music, and sure enough, you could hear it. Pretty creepy. It was like World War II France or England or Poland or something. Never heard it before tonight.
Nothing terrible happened here though, I think it just rained hard.

this made me smile.

in Nebraska there are tornado sirens everywhere; they test them on a regular basis and use them during severe weather. we hear them many times a summer. im used to them because i was born here and have been hearing them for years, but they definitely have an ominous 'WWII Air Raid Siren' sound to them.

I believe their official name is "Civil Defense Siren". The concept of which pretty much is, if they are blaring take cover. Used for tornados and air raids.:frantic: I also believe it to be the creepiest sound in the world. What else could be worse than a sound whose very meaning is of impending doom?

Grew up in L.A. during the 50's between to LAX and Hughes aircraft. Air Raid sirens surrounded our neighborhood and the CD would test them every 2nd Thursday of the month. Of course as kids we'd stand under them to see how long we could take it! Between that, the airport and rock concerts.... tinnitus!

At any rate normal seasonal rainfall up here is 75 inches. Got 72 last season. This season so far 15.
