Today, March 15th 2012 marks the 13th anniversary that I lost my father to Cancer. My father was my best friend. He bought my DeLorean for me in 1994 which ironically led to my career in the classic / exotic car business. About eight years ago just after opening DMC Florida, I met a father and son at a local British car show. The young man, then 10 years old, asked if he could sit in the DeLorean I was driving that day, I happily obliged. His father took a photo of his son in the car and later that year stopped by DMC Florida to check out the cars. The father had asked me to save an old fascia that I might be throwing away so he could refinish it and hang in his sons room. About a year ago the father stopped by saying his sons favorite car was still the DeLorean and he would like me to keep an eye out for a semi project car, a nice car that they could do things to over time. I found just the car and yesterday 3/14/12 that young man now 18 years old got the surprise of his life.

For me there are few things in my life (outside of my family and the experiences I have with them) that have any real value or meaning beyond its monetary amount. My DeLorean happens to be one of those things. Mainly because of the experience and family connection that I have with my particular car.
One of the things that makes these cars so special is the people and the stories that surround them. This is one of those great stories. I hope this father and son enjoy their DeLorean for many years to come!

What an amazing story - we all have obsessions about DeLoreans that proceeded our purchase by years/decades, but few would have an intertwining and touching story like this!

That was really nice. There is nothing purer than the joy of your first car (even better if it's a D). I too think about how the time I spend working on my car with the kids will impact their lives. It's the little things like this that kids remember.
Welcome aboard Trace, and thank you DMC Florida for posting.

Great post! Welcome to a wonderful community, and a wonderful car.
Please tell us a little about the car - manual/auto? What work do you have planned? Stuff like that would be neat to hear.

Ill admit, the reason why I was wearing my sunglasses is that I knew that would tear up. I love seeing suprises like these and you seem like a good kid Trace. And you have fantastic parents for putting a suprise like this together for you. Im sure you are the talk of the school now lol. Congrats Trace and welcome to the Delorean world!!! By the way, your Eibach kit should be here by the end of next week!

Guess you won't need to BORROW the keys for the Prom.
While this is great and I envy you. Be very weary of taking it to school. I'd hate to hear some jealous punk left there mark on it.
