View Full Version : The very first picture of you & a DeLorean

Post the very first picture of you in, on or around a DeLorean.

Include any other information you'd like such as VIN, location, owner, back story etc.

This is me in 1993. I've got a couple more but I'll have to scan them.

Richmond Hill, On. on Sanderson st.

Unknown VIN, owner didn't speak english.

I was on my way to little league practice. While we were searching for the baseball diamond, it came roaring around the corner. I asked my dad to chase it but by the time we were turned around it was long gone. Searching the area later, we found it. It was the first time I ever saw a DeLorean. What a rush!

It was hard to keep my eye on the ball that night.

This is a fun thread idea. I think mine is embarassing, as anyone who looks back at a childhood picture of themselves is bound to think... so I hope others will post to temper my nerdiness.

This would have been taken in the summer of either 1991 or 1992, just around when the BTTF ride first opened at Universal Florida. This car was on display outside. I was already obsessed as a child with the movies, and getting to see the real car and take the ride was an incredible experience. I think I made my family get in that line three or four times.

This was also when the backlot tour took you all around "Hill Valley" (before it was destroyed :sad30:), and at some other unknown point in the day I got to ride in the "interior" hero prop car that was actually screen used.

I didn't see another real D until I was in college, around 2003 or 2004 in Rochester, NY. And then not again until I met #2100 in Benicia, CA, January of 2011.

Anyway, there's your picture of dorky 10 year old me. :)

This was taken in 1995 at a Dodge dealer in Beckley WV. I wish I had a pic of the one I sat in 2 years earlier. Notice the NCT Tires. The Delorean was an 82 and sat there for a long time, before someone finally bought it.

Well, I didn't get to see my first DeLorean until a year ago. I was fortunate enough to meet a member of the forum who showed me his car and spent some time answering questions and even gave me a ride in his car. I hope to be able to do the same to someone whenever I manage to get a car. I might have loved the car since I was a kid from pics and the BTTF movies, but seeing one in real life cemented the desire to own one.

Man would I love to be able to dig through an old photos box and find a gem like you guys have. The thing is though, I don't think I ever got to see one up close and personal when I was a kid in the 80's, or 90's. I vaguely remember a couple family trips where I think I saw one. I guess I admired them from a far, through magazines, movies, and my imagination.

Fast forward to 2007 and the reality of getting one was close. The first one I ever got to check out closely in person belonged to another ODOC member, Gary O'C. His car was sweet (and it's for sale!) as it has a turbo set-up and this impressive shiny SS sheeting surrounding the engine bay.

9020

That's Gary on the left with the great smile (and great shirt!!)

So I had concluded I would fit, but since I met up with him in the middle of a car show, I didn't take it for a spin. I kind of rushed the next few parts (tough lesson) and bought one sight unseen. It hadn't quite got delivered by the time ODOC had their DeLoreannual in October 2007. I had my good buddy Richard R let me ride shotgun in his D as we went for a spin with the club in Toronto.

9021

Pretty much the week after that event, 3937 rolled in. That was really the first time I ever got my picture taken with one. Giddyup!

I don't have an early picture of myself, but of my son.

The story behind the photo is that I claimed to my wife and kids we were going to plattsburg to go to an applebees and then maybe do some shopping. Really I was there to meet my transport guy who had picked #3028 up in Jersey. The photo was when I first came out in the parking lot. The picture is a little blurry but you can see the smile on my sons face.

As a side note I kept thinking when I saw the car for the first time 9024that it looked so small on the lift.

I was waiting for one of you to notice that. The thing about #3028 is that when I got her the doors were stuck shut. The transport guy tried to open the door but could not get the front latch to unlock. As a result you see the door all wonky like that. He had to pull the little window off its track and lower it so he could get the car into neutral before loading her up. Thanks to Dave Swingle's instructions I was able to unlock both doors.

Yikes, it looks beyond stuck - on first glance it looks like the car was folded in half! Glad you got it sorted - your son looks like he would have been disappointed if you hadn't :)

Also, I'm not sure why the blue glowy fluxy bumper mesh thing is sticking up towards the rear end. Looks like it was detached and sitting weird?

Technically there are 2 Carson cars I believe. The one you refer to was replaced with this one. I have no idea of the whereabouts of the "broken down" one... although I think I read the problem was the alternator, and that the car may have become scrapped or parted at DMC.

This replacment car is the one Johnny Carson got a DUI in, and is the one that was repossessed after the company collapsed. At that time, Carson demanded a refund for the cost of new aftermarket tires he had installed on the car.

Don't quote me on any of this...

As was the same for some previous posters, this wasn't the first DeLorean I ever saw in person, but luckily it's perfect for this thread, as it *is* the very first picture taken of me with one. Circa 2001-2002 (darn scanned film pics! You can't right-click to see "date picture taken"). I was about 20 years old. It may be obvious, but the struts were shot so I'm actually holding the door up. Although I had seen the DeLorean on display at Universal Studios Hollywood in the 90s, I didn't actually see another one until I found one for sale at a local exotic car dealership in 2002. I went to go see it one afternoon, but the dealership was closed. I snapped a picture of me standing next to it through the fence:
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w57/jlattin21/DeLorean3.png

The DeLorean was still there some months later, and I arranged to go back and test drive it. The dealer had to jump start it because it had sat so long. I didn't get any pictures of me driving it, but I did get one of me sitting in it and getting out of the passenger side:

Epic thread! Here is a pic of the first D I ever saw in person.
9643

The story... I was probably 15 years old around 1997. My family went on a road trip to the east coast. As we were leaving town my mom asked all of us what is the one thing we want to see most on this trip? I could have said the Smokey Mountains, the White House, Monticello, all that kind of stuff. Instead I said, "I want to see a DeLorean! ". My dad laughed and said ok but he doubts that will happen. Well a few days later we were in Pigeon Forge, TN and there was a classic car dealer called Alan Jacksons. As we drove by, I glanced over and saw a DeLorean for sale! I made dad swing a U-turn and I freaked out seeing it! It was for sale for $16,000 and it said it had electrical problems. I don't know much else about it but then it occurred to me that it wasn't a $100,000 car and it was obtainable. At that point I went from just liking DeLoreans to obsessing over them until November 10, 2000 when I picked up 11596.

Here's a pic of of the PO signing over the title to me.

I recall reading a long article on the car in the spring of '84 - and then I of course saw the movie in '85 - but I had never seen a Delorean in person till this one was shipped out to Massachusetts in 1990 for us to use in the BTTF Ride....

9682

First time I actually saw a Delorean

9681

And 10 seconds after this was taken was the first time I drove one

I did not see a stock Delorean in person until spring of '93. I was working at Universal Studios opening the Ride in Hollywood, and they purchased an unmodified D to raffle off opening day. It was parked right outside my office, but it was locked and all we could do was peer inside. For those of you who don't know the long version of the story - the raffle did not work out for Universal, nor did the second attempt - eventually the studio had over $100k invested in that car and literally could not give it away - so they did the most logical thing they could think of - park it outside, stack pallets on it, allow it to get spray paint on it, allow critters to move in, break out half the glass and steal the radio, etc. (Morons.)

That car sat on the Universal lot for 12 years until I finally wrested it away from them...

Now she is mine and she is lovely and fixed and has both a good home, and an older sister next to her in the garage...

Ha thanks, I think I wore that shirt so much I wore it out. I was quite a little punk back then. Of course now I'm almost 30 and I have a mortgage, a real job, a hot girlfriend, all the things that make you settle down. But I still like to make some noise. Here's my latest track on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/lienan82/a-nuclear-welcoming-mk2. (sorry to high-jack the thread!)

Took these pics at DMC Florida, about 4 years ago, before Tony moved to the new space.
I had taken a day off of work just to look around and ask questions.
Since I live in Miami it was only a 2 hour drive, but definitely worth the drive.
I look forward to getting one of my own soon. :D

I think I may have uploaded this on the old forum. I'm not in it, but it is undoubtedly the first photo I ever took of a DeLorean. This is actually a scan of two photos, taken at the 1982 Chicago Auto Show.

Awesome photo! 82 was also the first year of the 3rd generation Camaro which is shown on display in the top pic

Believe it or not I have never seen a DeLorean live in my life!!:disapprove::disapprove:
Although I lived for several years around the world (Frankfurt, Chicago, London, etc) and was a fan of the BTTF movies always hoping to see one...

Here is the COMPLETE opposite of what this thread is about...

I own one now... and still haven't seen one live! Mine will arrive in about a month.:nana2:

A couple more photos referencing the 1982 Chicago Auto Show - from the Nostalgia section of the current auto show.

These photos of photos were taken when they were on display in 2012.

I've long since lost the pic of the first DeLorean I saw/sat in, but I was 16, and it was in 1998 at the Fall Charlotte Auto Fair at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Fast forward a couple of years, and here I am the day I brought home my first DeLorean:

It's painful looking at that pic between the awful hair & awful clothes.

For me, it was a bit identical. However I saw one (as the picture abowe shows) I never sat in one. So I bought a car on eBay and when it arrived, it was the first time I could sit in. It was good. :)

This was in 1987. You can see it on the poster on the back wall if you look closely.
There was an exotic car show and a friend of mine had free tickets so we went there.

It was the first Delorean I ever saw, and I was just knocked of my feet! I just kept on looking at it, and the owner noticed me and said I could have a seat in it. I could not believe I was allowed to sit in it, but I never forgot. This show never came back, but I had this picture enlarged in my room, and looked at it a million times.
When that show was over the next day I went back there to see it driving away. I was in luck because someone got a ride around the block, so I saw it passing by a few times. I remember it like it was yesterday.
At those days the Delorean was not allowed on Belgian roads, and I wonder still today where that Delorean right now.

3 years ago there was an exotic car show in the same place, and I registered for it, just to get the feeling that in the exact same hall I saw and sat in a Delorean for the first time, is now my Delorean. Felt great.

You do look like you are in shock at being able to sit in one :)

There must have been very few cars in Europe in 1987. You were lucky to see one.

This was at the NEC motorshow. No idea what year or what car, but I'd have been about 12. I'd been into D's hardcore for about 4 years at that point and Dave Howarth of the DeLorean Owner's Club invited me up to the show on the set up day so I could get to see some cars before the crowds came. I think seeing it for the first time broke my mind - they don't look anything like they do in the photos. It was so smooth and wide and different to all the other cars.

This was me back in 2010. when I was at the Trans-am Auto Museum in Parkersburg, WVA. vin 3552 or 3525 (cant remember.) was an Automatic with gray interior with only 2800 miles. interior was still wrapped up from the factory. supposedly was involved in the movie spider man 3 (that's what I was told.) I was like a kid in heaven.
