My car had been idle for several weeks during an EFI conversion. Today after starting it I wanted to ease the car back into the garage but after putting it in drive (it's an automatic) there was no power to the transmission. In 1 or 2 didn't work either. I checked and replaced fuse 13 and it is fine. During the time we were working on the car we had accidently knocked the transmission filler tube loose. I had to drain all the fluid out in order to put everything back properly. I put in fresh transmission fluid (Dexron II compatible). Would the car need to warm up a while to get fluid circulated or something?

Have you checked the fluid level? Use the fluid check procedure in the manual. It needs fluid to work.

Does reverse work?

I did check the fluid level. Perhaps it needs more.

I'm wonder if one of three things may be going on:
1. We moved a lot of things in the engine and unplugged things in the bulkhead. I need to make sure everything was put back in the right spot.
2. Is there any vacuum hose associated with an automatic transmission? Something may have gotten unplugged.
3. There is the cable that connects to the throttle spool that's related to the auto isn't it? Could something be wrong there such as not being connected properly?

Does reverse work?

I didn't try reverse because I was on a sloping driveway and I didn't want to roll further away from the garage with no way to get it back in there. I may try tomorrow to see if I can back out of the garage.

(The things you mentioned can cause it to shift at the wrong time or not at all, but it should pull...)
You mentioned it is parked on a slope...try getting it on level ground and checking the fluid with the engine warm and running.

If you have reverse and nothing else, there very likely is an internal spot-welded part
(C2 clutch assembly? Not sure) that has failed.

My memory is pretty fuzzy on this one. If that is the car I think it is, it broke and was repaired for Ken before the raffle. Repair, if possible at all, requires complete disassembly of the transmission.

You don't need to move the car to see if you have reverse. Just put it in R with your foot on the brake and see if the TACH drops due to load change of Neutral to trying to move the car in reverse.

All working now. Not enough transmission fluid.
