Rub Pad, Drop Glass PN: 108215

I have some scratches on the outside portion of my drop glass. I replaced the felt trim the other day and with the interior door panel off as well as the support bracket, I poked around but couldn't figure out what was scratching the glass. The outside glass trim does not have any abrasiveness to it.

On the DMCH site, I noticed that PN: 108215 is listed, but there is no description as to where the rub pads are adhered to. The site says that 3 pieces are used per side. Number 23: http://store.delorean.com/c-315-8-6-0-glass-sections.aspx

I understand that outside scratches are common. Maybe the rub pad is supposed to protect the glass from these scratches and after so many years, mine may no longer be there.

Has anyone else experienced this and know what might be causing the scratches? Does anyone know where these rub pads are supposed to be installed?

I'm going to be getting my windows tinted and would like to replace the drop glass before I get this done, but don't want to if I can't correct the scratching problem...

I figured it out. The pads adhere to the inside of the door, close to the top. I am missing them.

Now the question is how easy is it to R&R the carrier and the glass. Is it easier to buy the carrier and glass already glued in or remove the old glass, reuse the carrier and glue a new piece in?

Any thoughts?

I have read that it's a real bitch to get that carrier off. I remember reading about a pretty scary trick involving a hammer that sounded awful.

Do you have any pics of where the pads should go? I don't recall seeing them in my drivers door and my window does seem to rub.

Consider polishing the scratches out.

Get the car or the drop glass+carrier to a good auto glass shop. They can tell whether the scratches are shallow enough for recovery.

I've seen wiper scratches on windshields eliminated this way. There is a limit to what can be polished out without causing other problems. The glass shop will give you an estimate or no-bid it. There's nothing special about this glass.

Pictures of my driver side door.

There is two of the three required pads close to the top of the door frame, below the bottom of the drop glass. I am missing the one towards the front. As the window goes up and down, it rubs against the inside of the door and scratches the glass. I'll replace the pads on both door as they all seem to be brittle.

Hmm, I'm still not sure where in that pic they're supposed to be. But what I am sure is that I don't have even the remnants of them in mine. Be very curious to see a pic with the "right" location of the pads circled for reference.

I was replacing a window motor today and I noticed a couple of pieces that looked like the fuzzy part of a velcro strip come out, don't know from where. Is that what they are? I am also wondering where they go.

This should help. Also, the pads do look like Velcro. I'll probably replace mine with Velcro strips.
