So at the weekend I had just drained the old oil out when I discovered that I had the wrong Bosch filter. I didn't have time to hit Autozone for the right one, never mind DMCH, so I refilled with fresh oil and called it a day.

So my question - can I just change out the filter without draining the oil again - how much oil will exit the filter hole?

About as much as is in the filter itself. Nothing from the pan will come out. It'll be less than 1qt.

Just change it. You'll lose the oil in the filer and not much else. No big deal. Just like any other car.

+1

Just check and top off after you're done.

That's what I would have thought, but better to ask the stupid questions first :)
