What's the best product or technique to get tree sap off of stainless steel?

+1 ^ there is a product called "Bug Off" I think it comes in a small spray bottle, works pretty good

Mix up some car wash soap and HOT water. Use an old terrycloth towel.

Its awesome stuff. I prefer it over Gojo to clean my hands after working on a car.

Gasoline and mineral spirits are both highly flammable. They are also hard on the paint and rubber. If you can't get the sap loose with hot water and soap 3M makes an adhesive remover that works very well and is safer.

Even if you are "only" cleaning the stainless, you may still get some on the paint and rubber which is next to the panels. BTW, brake fluid also can remove tree sap and paint but I don't see anyone recommending it for that use! Using any other detergent than car soap is harsh on the car. Car soap washes off very easily with minimal water. Try washing off Tide. You will see foam bubbles for a long time! I used to use dishwashing liquid soap. I thought soap was soap. Car wash soap washes off fast with little water. It isn't even expensive! Check out Griot's Garage (griotsgarage.com) for car washing and cleaning products. Or go to a local auto store.

Sounds like brake fluid is a winner too! Looks like you have lots of things to try now.
