DPI's 17" and 18" wheels?

I was just looking through the site and saw that he has 17 and 18" wheels for sale. Does anyone have any pictures of them? There are none on the site. Was wondering how they look. Thanks!

i agree i think they look too big. I think personally I am going to go with the stock sizes but the chrome ones DMC offers.

Here is a picture of Martins; if I recall correctly, each is 2 inches larger than stock so 16's and 17's I believe.

The above car sits to high, especially the front. Those wheels would look decent if the car was lowered.

The UK wheels are 18 &17 inch and were custom made for one customer that paid for the tooling to have them created.

Unless you want to foot the cost of New tooling that's all there is at this time.

Personally I think the Rear 18" with the oversized tire is just the right ratio of rim to sidewall that works just fine. But the front needs to be a 16" wheel with a little more sidewall viewable to balance the front to back look. You cannot increase the tires' OD to accomplish this look. You will have fender clearance issues when the tire is turned inward. As it is now my stock setup only clears by a 1/4 inch a with lowered front.

I really appreciate the comments but it was a case of doing what the customer requested, and in my opinion, those who think they look "wrong" are looking through the eyes of knowing too well what the originals look like - it was my gut reaction too. But the bottom line is that were the car to be made today, you know it'd have considerably larger wheels. And the thing everyone has wanted for years are oem-look big rims :-)

Has anyone messed around with a 17" in the back and 16" in the front? I bet that would be the best compromise. Having 18" in the back and 16" in the front might be too off but I would have to see it to be really sure.

Martin the pictures that I posted are of Cliff Schmucker's who just had tires mounted last week. Are his 17/16's or 18/17's? For some reason I feel like he told me they were 17/16's.

Your are right, we are used too seeing a curtain look and that does influence ones perspective. I recall not being too thrilled with the DMCH custom wheels (in photo's) but after seeing them at DCS 10 on the Stage III car I changed my mind a bit. They looked better than I expected and kinda fit the custom look of that car with the Body wrap.

I'm sure when I get the chance to see your wheels on Cliffs car at DCS12 my perception will change. The Design and Craftsmanship of the wheels are "BEAUTIFUL" though.

I'm curious though what sizes are the Tires? How do compare too the originals from an OD standpoint or RPM (revolutions per mile)?

Cliff told me that the tire OD on his 17/18's are identical to the original tire ID. Only thing that changes is the rim size. Plus he said it was cake finding a matching set of tires.

Still curious of the a actual tire sizes chosen. (width/ratio) I'm sure it's easy to get whatever flavor tire you want in matching sets in 16 ,17 or 18's. Seems like most of the mainstream tire makers are dropping 14 and 15 inch sizes (now relegated to off brand product lines) as the vehicle fleet ages and factory cars are have transitioned too the larger rims these days.

Not necessarily, The big difficulty these days is that finding Matching tires in the original sizes is nearly impossible now. If your willing to compromise on the slightly smaller 225/60-15 rear, you can still find a reasonable selection of matching size offerings. Finding a nice performance tire narrows that quite a abit. I just bought a set of Falken ziex 512's 225/60-15 and 195/60-14 for $288 delivered + $65 for M&B locally. In 3 years when I need to replace the rears I'll be lucky if that tire Model still exits. Then I'll be looking for another compromise set.

This is my 5th set of tires to date. It had Toyo's when I got it which probably replaced the Goodyear NCT's by the (PO). I ran 2 sets of Yokohama AVS intermediates (discontinued) , then 2 sets of Michelin Pilot's (discontinued) Now the Falken Ziex 512's. In 3 years that line may be discontinued too who knows. Until recently Cooper Cobra's were an option. The front size is now discontinued. Michelin Pilot Exaltos were the compromise size offering the past few years. The 225 Rears have been discontinued at this time. As demand for those 14 and 15 inch tires falls through fleet attrition Manufacturers are choosing too drop the smaller sizes.

Not to say we will be SOL by 2020. If you want to buy a set of $2000 wheels, do it because you want them, not because you need them for easy tire options. If it's like anything limited to the DMC Micro-aftermarket. Sooner would better though. If Martin gets hit by a train that option will be discontinued too.

We wouldn't be in this position if the car used 1 tire size. But then it wouldn't be Delorean would it.
