Engine bay brackets

Quick question guys, is it safe to remove these two brackets in the rear corners of the engine bay? I was scraping off the flaky paint so I could give them a coat of POR15 and I noticed the paint on the back is flaking off too.
Just asking in case I have the back end fall off, knowing my luck, lol. ;)

It's nothing serious, just light surface rust.

It's ok to remove them, but just be aware that your rear fascia will be loose while they are off. Thus, it's probably not safe to drive.

Yikes, is that all that holds the fascia on? I'll prop it up with something just in case. The car definitely won't be moving until they're put back on again anyway.
Good to know when it comes to getting the fascia resprayed in future!

There are also some bolts into the pontoons and the studs on the lower heat shield holding it in place, but those brackets do a lot of the "heavy lifting" and it would definitely be inadvisable to drive with them out. But the fascia won't fall off without them :)

Make sure you mark where they were so you don't inadvertently shift your fascia to one side or the other.

When I painted mine,I used the tip of a razor and left a light score around the sides so I'd know exactly where it needed to be. No problems with fascia fitment here.

You'll be fine, there are 3 more M6 bolts on each side holding that fiberglass piece to the pontoon, plus the fascia bolts to the lower heat shield. You likely wont even be able to shift the fascia position with both brackets off.

I remember trying to remove the fascia being unaware of the extra bolts, thinking it was only the heat shield and those brackets, and I could not make the fascia budge until I found those bolts.

Yes we do. It requires 8 m8 bolts, 12 washers and 4 nuts.

Thanks for the input everyone - I got it taken care of!
I cleaned them up and put on a couple of coats of POR15 (incredible stuff!) and it looks good as new. I intend to put some new bolts and washers in to replace the old rusty ones but I don't have any to hand at the minute.

Josh - I did actually consider stainless replacements - I'll keep it in mind for the future!

Great improvement! Looks good. Think how good it will look with stainless bolts :)
