I have been told that the stock spring collars must be re-used when replacing the old Girling shocks. Does anyone know how to remove the collars?
I'd like to get them blasted and powder coated to improve their appearance.
Thanks!

When you remove the shocks they will fall off.

Alas, mine did not fall off.

Should I try using a hammer?

Indeed.

Where does the collar end and the shock begin? Is that thin ring attached to the shock itself and thus the perch that the collar rests on? Forgive the newb-ness of these questions, this is my first foray into suspension work and frame-off restorations.

The weld around the shock is the lip that the two haves of the collar sit on. The spring cup supply's pressure holding the collar halves to the welded lip.

Yeah. They should come off in two halves and the lip should remain (as it is part of the shock)

Thanks for the pointers, gents. Mission accomplished with some "gentle" persuasion and my hammer. :)
