If your car has been sitting for years this is why you must first address the fuel system.

From my pictures you will see how the feed lines are deteriorated, and the pump is rusted and falling apart. A view inside the tank reveals rust flakes and other dirt.

Enjoy, I hope I don't give anyone nightmares.

Good luck, I'd hate to think some of that is now inside your fuel distributor and injectors. Definitely replace your fuel filter next.

The other system that doesn't store well is the brake system and the clutch if a 5-speed. The brake fluid gets corrosive and eats up the metal parts. The cooling system also ages badly. The rubber hoses, seals, and aluminum parts go bad when the coolant gets acidic. The struts die when they lose pressure over time. The leather needs care, the foam backing to the headliner turns to dust and the headliners drop. The frame can rust when the epoxy coating cracks and moisture gets to the sheet metal frame. The tires get hard and unridable after 7 years. Wiper blades, door seals, the list goes on and on. Ignition wires, etc. It can cost a lot to revive an unused, badly stored car!

Yup! these cars aren't baseball cards. Cant just put them up for years then decide to play with them.

I was very lucky with mine. After its 7 year sleep I was able to start it the same day by pumping the tank and freeing up a stuck fuel pump. Fortunately it was stored indoors under a building in a temperature controlled environment. I eventually went through the entire fuel system but was extremely lucky with both the brakes and clutch hydraulics.
