Hey Guys,
I'm not sure if this has ever been covered before, but does anyone know how much a DeLorean frame weighs?

I read somewhere that it was around 220 lbs, but I've never seen a weighbridge ticket

Seriously? WOW.
The reason I ask is this: I need it to be under 676 lbs. If so, I can get it galvanized for a low flat rate. Anything over that weight, they start charging by the pound.
I need it to be under 676 lbs.
Its well below that. I've moved mine around a bit and Id think if it was anywhere near 600lbs I'd need an assistant to move it around.

It does seem light doesn't it. (all I can hear is Bill in my ear about thin steel laminated together)

Recently, I was able to see a stripped frame. I could rather easily pick up 1 end of the frame with 1 hand & guestimated that the whole thing was probably in the 200 lb range. So I really do believe the 220 lb number above is probably pretty close.

I had no idea that galvanizing adds 50 lbs!
I always heard it was about 10-15lbs.

"What do you mean -- an African frame, or a European frame?"
(Apologies to Monty Python)
I couldn't resist. Sorry. :(

Why resist? It's not like our cars are drawing flocks of women to us, so spouting a little Monty Python ought to be safe.

Hi spittybug
I removed the epoxy the old fashioned way .. used a lot
Of paint remover (namely 'nitromors'). This made the
Epoxy all soft and peelable (after a lot of soakage )
That got most of it off but for the box sections I opened
Each one up and sand blasted it to make sure .
If I was doing it again I wouldn't use this method as its
Extremely labour intensive and I'm not as young as I used to be! , there s a company in England
Called surface processing (other owners have used) who do top quality work by dipping
The frames in specialized cemical baths that strip the chassis back to bare metal and have done good
Few delorean frames already . They generally turn it around in a week
Cheers

Well then -
If a coconut weighs an average of 3 lb and a frame is 220lb, then a frame is the same as 73 coconuts.
And if two African swallows can carry a coconut suspended beneath them on a strand of creeper held under their dorsal guiding feathers, it follows that 146 African swallows could carry a frame (non migratory frame of course).
Though what their air speed velocity would be, I shudder to think.

I never thought of it that way. When I use the D to pick up the supplies for my annual pina colada party, it's like jamming another whole frame under the bonnet. What a revelation :)
