Clutch Assembly Bolts

Hi everyone,

So kind of a dumb question, but I need to get the bolts that are used for the clutch and flywheel assembly so that the crankshaft, etc. can be balanced (parts at a machine shop). The bolts for these parts are not currently at my house and I wanted to provide the shop with the correct bolts that would be used during reassembly. I see from the site that these bolts are

and 102594 Washer Spring https://store.delorean.com/p-8656-washer-spring.aspx

So my question is, I know I need some M8 and M9 bolts, but does anyone know the length? And the Washer spring I am guess is just a lock washer, correct?

I would like to try to pick these up at the local hardware store instead of having to order them specifically and wait for them to ship out. Unless they are a special type.

Any help on this simple and probably easy question would be appreciated, thanks!

Looks like the M8 clutch bolts are 25mm, the M9 flywheel bolts... honestly, looks like either 22mm or 7/8". Definitely custom bolts.

Just fyi I can absolutely positively without a doubt promise you that you will NOT find M9 bolts at a hardware store. Believe me, I have looked. Earlier this year I needed to find one M9 so that I could use the threads to make the pivot bolt for the shifter assembly, (because for SOME reason that bolt is an M9) and I could not even find M9's online to purchase. Even my guy at Fastenal and the people at McMasterCarr were completely stumped on acquiring the bolt. I almost ended up buying headbolts for some civic because they were the only place I could find M9's. Honestly it kind of makes me mad to find out that I could have bought crank bolts for $.64. Luckily the person I bought the shifter assembly from found the pivot bolt.

Still, good luck if you want to try to find them locally, but I'd go ahead and order them now.

What is it with crank bolts being ridiculous threads? Another engine of mine uses M11s??? Guess they want to be sure people dont just use their own bolts, but rather buy bolts specially suited for that job.

Thanks for the info! Based upon your response, and my own search online for M9 bolts, I am going to wait until Monday to drop off the clutch assembly to get balanced with the crankshaft to ensure that I have the right bolts. Thanks again for your help.

I had the same problem with M7 bolts for the timing cover (and all over the engine). The hardware stores carry a very limited selection of M7s and the lengths are inadequate. I found an Ebay seller out of the UK called Spalding Fasteners and he sells all manner of M7s, fully threaded up to 70mm lengths, which is great for all manner of replacements as you can trim to fit, etc.

Yea but M7's are at least available. Both the Ace Hardware and Lowes near me carry a full line of M7's. The Ace even has 10.9 grade and SS bolts. Even the plastic bolt template thingy has a spot for M7's. Last time I tore my car down to the valley I replaced all the M7 bolts with new ones from Ace Hardware. The M9's and M11's are just unheard of.
