What's the situation with flywheels?

Hypothetically were I to need a flywheel, it looks like I would be out of luck? I ask because recently my Mustang needed a clutch replacement and after a few attempts to machine the flywheel resulting in a chattering clutch, the mechanics had enough and replaced the entire flywheel.

According to DMCH, this is an obsolete part. Are DeLorean flywheels invincible or something???

No, just not available NOS. One of those things that never made it into the spares inventory at DMC.

You'd be looking on ebay or calling the shops to see if anyone has any used parts available. They can be found. Scrap cars, engine swaps, conversions etc.

BTW.... The worst thing you can do is look at the DMCH parts supply available quantity. Just because it says 0.00 means nothing. We have reproduced many items that were no longer available and continue to do so. Also that simply means they do not have an NOS part and doesn't mean they are not available from another vendor.

I have the proto's from SW version 2.0 with integrated front end support brackets at the shock mounting point. I should have the set installed on the SPEC III mule next week. The folds on the bottom of the arm are cut incorrect and needs changed as pushing the shock up through is next to impossible without grinding.

First set didn't have the correct press fit for the bushing and worked out of the collar..... Development costs are rising.

I dont get it. The DeLorean definitely isn't the only car to ever use this engine or transmission, how can there not be other compatible flywheels? As I understand, the clutch pattern on the flywheel is a very standard Renault bolt pattern. Are there no other PRV B28F cars with manual transmissions??

When I went to a machine shop that has alot of experience with Volvos and Renaults, he noted right away that it was a Renault flywheel, but said that they usually don't have a step and asked what kind of car it came out of. I am guessing the flywheel out of the old Renaults did not have a step and were instead flat. Just add it to the list of possible common parts that are changed slightly to make it DeLorean specific :)
