My door window drop glass and it's metal carrier mounting assembly have come completely unattached from each other on the driver's side door. The window regulator still works properly and still raises & lowers the carrier assembly just fine. Having removed the upper trim panel for a better look-see & pretty limited access, I managed to get the glass fully up into the channel by hand and the carrier properly moves up & down, and it appears that the glass had previously been held to it only by some gray colored pliable adhesive compound. Is that the normal factory condition (for an earlier model, VIN#1150, April 81 build) or was something likely done by a previous owner or shop regarding the grey adhesive holding them together? My printed copy of the parts manual shows the drop glass & carrier as one unit listed under one part number. The DMCH online store diagram shows the drop glass & the carrier as two separate part numbers and does not list the original combined unit part number at all. To try and get a quick fix on my daily driver, I applied permatex weatherstrip adhesive to as much as I could reach of the common surfaces of both the drop glass & the metal carrier where the old gray adhesive already was, and with the drop glass held firmly in proper full up position in it's track by duct tape on it's outer surface to the outside fixed glass & stainless door skin, I then raised the carrier tightly into place and am now waiting until tomorrow to remove the duct tape and see if the new adhesive job will hold well enough to allow me to once again raise & lower the drop glass normally. Has anyone else experienced this particular issue before, and if so, how did you deal with it? Any helpful comments or suggestions on whether or not my actions thus far are a good or a bad idea, and what to try next if it doesn't hold? The search function on the site is currently not functioning, so I apologize in advance for not being able to search out similar references first.

The factory used two different attachment methods. Some had the glass set in the carrier with tape, most were glued. You should clean the glass and glue it back in with windshield urethane. There are dimple marks on the glass to help you locate the glass on the carrier. See photos. The dimples should be equal distance from the metal when installed.

We often see the glass move in the carrier, which is when you see the glass shift frontward in the opening as it just closes. OR jump off the track repeatedly.

Thanks for the info Dave, the pics really made it all much clearer than I could see without disassembling things. The new adhesive I put on there yesterday seems to have done the trick, it's all holding together now and still moving as it should. If it comes apart again, I now have a better understanding of the whole mechanism and if needed I can then go the extra mile of taking it all out of the door for a more permanent re application of adhesive before reinstalling.
