Windshield Frame Stainless Underneath?

So while removing all of the paint off of our car, we happened to peel up a small section of the black windshield frame, and noticed that it appears to be stainless underneath? I haven't seen any pictures of a delorean with a stainless windshield frame on top, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen/thought about doing this, and if there are any downsides or drawbacks to it, other than it looking different? Ours was pretty faded and had traces of red on it, so it's either take all the paint off and keep it stainless, or repaint it black, so we're just exploring another option of what to do in this situation. Anyone have any experience/thoughts on this? Thanks!

There is one car that comes in here from time to time with the part across the top of the windshield grained to match the rest of the car. It is indeed stainless. I found the only photo I apparently have that shows it clearly. The side trims are still black.

When I removed the paint off my car, I didn't realize that part goes black until quite some time later. I currently still have it stainless. The only thing I don't like is that it does not have grain like the rest of the car. Mine didn't look too bad though so I haven't bothered getting it painted yet.

I think the stainless looks cool on that piece.

It sort of blends very well either way, as long as it's in good shape. Good looking stainless or good looking paint both look very correct there.

I wonder if keeping it black does anything to reduce glare?

Reduce glare? What? You ever see your delorean in bright sun? You can't even look at the thing! :lol:

Just as an update, we saw the pictures and I think we're going to attempt to do this to our car as well. After taking off all the red paint, why stop there right? :)

We'll post pics of the car when we're done so you guys can see what the end result is, as well as before/after to see what shape it is in when the paint comes off, and how it'll look after we attempt to blend it a bit and see how much effort it takes.

WOW! That looks pretty nice in the overhead shot with all 3 pieces done. I recall seeing the Car that Dave gets in the shop. I didn't care for that one. Mostly because the SS header had an off color tone that didn't seem to match the Body stainless. Seeing all 3 pieces done makes it look more natural. The aluminum side pieces would tend to have a whiter appearance. The picture above looks like it was taken in flat light, which tends too hide the difference somewhat.

Up close there is no doubt that the top is stainless and the sides are aluminium and the stainless certainly stays shinier than the aluminum.

At the end of the day it costs nothing to do (save for the cost of a scotch brite pad or wet & dry sand paper) and can be undone with a spray can.

I thought about doing this myself. Might have to try this when I get the car back here. As you said, easy to undo.
