Hi newbie here just bought a delorean love it . The car sat for a long time and we are just getting it to run . She will start and run for a minute then she cuts out . If you leave it alone for 10 to 15 minutes she will start again but only after you wait. If you pour a little gas in the injector she will start again ? Could this be the injectors ?? Any help would be appreciated . Thanks Jim

Part of the problem could be the fuel accumulator; I know I need mine replaced, along with the filter.

Have you flushed your fuel lines? Clean out tank? Be sure to get your fuel system cleaned out before replacing the injectors or you will be looking at replacing them again. If its turning off after a few minutes I would assume you need a filter. But again clean fuel system out first.

Yes. Definitely go over the fuel system thoroughly. Depending on how long the car sat and if there was fuel left in the tank, line, etc it could need a complete overhaul.

Also, check the break syste, and cooling system. All of these do not handle long term storage well without proper prep.

General rule of thumb if the car wasn't stored correctly, count on about $1000 per year it sat to get it drive able again.

Congrats on the new purchase! You can get the fuel accumulator (Part#100519) and fuel filter (Part#100523) from any of the Delorean Vendors, such as DMC- Midwest, DMC-Huston, PJ Grady in NY, etc. Check out this Thread (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?197-My-Favorite-DeLorean-Web-Sites-Part-I-of-II.) for some useful links. Yeah, all the vendors carry them. I'm actually having to do the same thing. I'm starting next week. Ordering a new pump, accumulator, and filter. Too bad we aren't a little closer, or we could buddy up on it!

Start by pulling the fuel pump out of the tank and inspecting the rubber parts. Look in the tank. If it smells "dead" remove the fuel and wipe it out with Acetone. To get to the fuel pump remove the curved cover in the spare tire well. If the car has been sitting for a long time it will cost you a lot more than $1K to get it going. Figure on rebuilding the cooling system, fuel system, brake system, and clutch hydraulics at a minimum. Tires alone can cost $400, a battery $70. Gee, you already blew half your budget! Even doing all of the work yourself you can easily dump $5K just to get it running.

Along the lines David T mentions relative to getting the fuel system up to snuff, take a look at this fuel system renewar thread in the Resources section. Depending on how long your D was asleep you may have one of more of the common problems with cars that have been kept out of circulation, so to speak:

There's plenty of other useful stuff in the General Discussion --> Resources thread. Most D's that are awakening after a long sleep need attention to a few or all of the systems David lists. As mentioned upstream in this thread, getting the engine/fuel/cooling systems plus the brakes done- and done right - is the minimum.

Don't skimp - you'll be glad of it later.
